As a former student of another teacher who also studied with Douglas Stanley, I have a unique appreciation for the technique behind Tom's amazing and miraculous voice. He was one of a small handful of the greatest voices of the 20th century, unappreciated by current generations. I only wish that I had known him and studied with him. He was truly special. Thank you so much for preserving this important historical document!

My pleasure. It was truly a labor of love and respect. I heard him teach literally thousands of lessons. He was a wonderful human being and a great artist.

It's always about the inhalation, right? That's how it begins. That said, it's never just about the inhalation.

Wow. He sang incredible, fantastic, marvelous! I can appreciate the "chiaroscuro" of his voice from bottom to top. Thank you for sharing this.

Many thanks to Scott Flaherty for posting these performances by our beloved teacher. He was one of the great singers of the twentieth century, as you can hear, and an exceptional teacher. As a man, he was one of the kindest, most generous, and psychologically astute people I've ever met. A joke teller and raconteur par excellence, he was also probably the funniest. I loved the man. Rest in peace, Tommy.

I appreciate what he did with "A Vucchella" at 30:00, demonstrating how a big dramatic voice can sing lyrically.

I would appreciate if you can you tell me what lied he is singing after Der Erlkönig (which he sings splendidly, one of the best I'ver heard).

Sure. It's "Verrat" by Brahms. It is a personal favorite of mine.
