Thomas Newman - Six Feet Under Title Theme

Just like last year for this week only, I'm taking a break from pop music and post themes from movies and TV--but this year it will be just all TV series music, starting with the title theme from the HBO series that aired from 2001 to 2005, about a dysfunctional family that owns a funeral home in Los Angeles. Composer and conductor Thomas Newman did the show's memorable main theme, which won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music in 2002. The theme was also released as a single with remixes, and the remixed version went to #24 on the Dance charts in 2002.

Piano/bells in the higher register and pizzicato strings in the intro. Oboe playing the melody. Lots of other textures, ambience, percussion, etc.

The reed instrument is a cor anglais, not an oboe.

This song sounds SOOOOOOO familiar to something I've heard in the past but i can't remember what. it makes me think of the song Dead Like Me but maybe that's not it. anyone know another song this is similar to? PLEASE HELP 😢😂😂

He is the same composer of the theme song to Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. When I heard that (Capote) theme song, I KNEW it was the same guy as Six Feet Under! He really has a specific and wonderful style.
