Thomas Saf-T-Liner C2 school bus ride-along, external camera left front

Experience the sights and sounds of suburban NJ and the Cummins ISB on this ride-along. Camera placement gives you the best seat for the muted hooting of this post-emissions diesel engine, with induction noise, wind, turbo whine and a few growls from the DPF regeneration system.
For upcoming videos I'm thinking of aiming the camera down a bit to catch the steer tire, and also an overhead/over-the-shoulder shot from behind the driver.

Our district used to have Thomas C2’s and FS65s but they got retired in 2017 and replaced by the new 2017-2018 IC CE’s

Could you do another Startup and drive from inside the bus showing the wheel and everything as your driving? Maybe see if you can do an IC CE or a Mini Bus when school starts back up in September?

That's what's called the engine brake. It releases air from the intake and it's why it growls. It sounds soo good in my opinion. I rode a 2017 C2 brand-new and heading the engine brake is music to my ears.😊

This bus wasn't equipped with an engine or exhaust brake, that noise was a DPF regeneration. But my most recent video features a bus which does have exhaust brake! I only used it once in the video however, because the Thomas's are set up to downshift too aggressively and it makes it annoying to drive with the brake active.

Do you prefer the C2 or the CE?

Each has its distinctive strong points. I'd say CE overall, especially if it has air ride. I once heard someone say the spring CE's ride like logging trucks, and it's the truth. I don't like the transmission controller on the newer CE's with Cummins, very hard to accelerate smoothly

Does this bus have exhaust brake?

No, any exhaust sounds you hear are from the DPF regen, which is noticeably noisy, smelly, and brake-y on the C2, i.e. it does have the effect of an exhaust brake "for free"
