Thomas Sowell -- Dismantling America

Hoover Institution

13 жыл бұрын

Thomas Sowell has studied and taught economics, intellectual history, and social policy at institutions that include Cornell University, UCLA, and Amherst College. Now a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, Sowell has published more than a dozen books, the latest of which is Dismantling America.
In introducing his new book, Sowell asserts that the Obama administration "is the embodiment, the personification, and the culmination of dangerous trends that began decades ago," trends that are "dismantling America." Sowell sees this in the dismantling of marriage, of culture, and of self-government.

I am a 47 years old adult learner and I even think Mr. Sowell is a rock star. I get it, I am finally getting it. My decision to obtain a higher education has broadened my mind and even change my heart in some ways. And Mr. Sowell is a major contribution of that factor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Be well.

His insight is backed by data, presented in a way in which average bums like me can understand but not put forth in a condescending way. The easy answer is because of the work he does... He has not "discovered" a new aspect of Economics, much of what he talks about was talked about by Mises, Hayek, et.al. He does so in a brilliantly simple way, which puts him above them in many aspects, but ultimately is not "new." The hard answer involves the before bit, and a little bit of what StephenNu9 said, He "doesn't have the right political views," up to and including, not being interested in winning one... Remember, Hitler, Obama and Paul Krugman have all won one. And there is a point were an organization whose job it is to honor excellence looses credibility. The Hugo awards have been working on that heavily for years.

+Minor Preference , with regard to your rhetorical question, sadly you're probably right. Most people of color focus more on the color of one's skin rather than the content of a person's character. That explains why 95% of blacks voted for Obama twice having no clue who he really was! Mr. Swell said it well with his closing advice, *_"...if we through some miracle get through this ... please take to heart the lesson of what happens when you vote on the bases of rhetoric and symbolism in stead of using your mind. It doesn't matter how smart you are, unless you stop and think!"_* Powerful closing advice!

No doubt, Thomas Sowell is a brilliant man. In short, "neo-libs/progs" don't like facts, like they are actually intolerant and not very liberal at all anymore. They're into virtue signaling fake feelings about artificial constructs. No facts, no problem solving. Don't like delusional non-fact finding people creating long term serious difficulties, you are more likely conservative.
