Thomas The Tank Investigation - Trackmaster, TOMY & CLONE

My faulty Trackmaster Thomas Tank from my Risky Rails Bridge Drop playset opened up a hornets nest of investigation into these toys trains. It had me inspecting all my Thomas's. I also look at the classic TOMY and knock off fake TOMY Thomas Tanks are put together.
Take a look at what I uncovered when I do a whole bunch of Thomas strip downs. I suspect the sticker which was riding high on the faulty Thomas I came across may be related to the reason why it has been build wrong.

interesting video, the angry face tomy thomas with white running plate are available on ebay for about $13 I grabbed another one now I have 2x pristine ones and my mish mash one that I repaired and then fitted a working lamp in. Thats my all time favourite Thomas.

I am only going to do a few more lego videos, sadly they just don't work for me, the lego fanboys seem to be addicted to mobile device views only I did buy a whole box of series 8 MF ( so thats 3 series this year ) at a cost of $300, maybe time to do some mythbusting about what comes in a whole box

I think that new Thomas from the Risky Rails set was a unlucky one. But if one person was making those mistakes how many others have possibly been made like this. Am I just the most unlucky consumer in the world? I was surprised to see the old TOMY used the same electrical connections as the Thomas from today.

Yeah jazzwares has a record of making low quality toys that's also the same case with their sonic the hedgehog 3 inch figures which is called "quality control".

Here in Asia we have never gotten Trackmaster until, say 2 to 3 years ago.During the span of 2000-07, when I was collecting Thomas, I got all the Japan or UK Tomy ones. I guess they are pretty hard to come by in western or Australian countries (Japanese ones). Your video has made me re look at some of my stuff and realize the number of variants there are. Never knew the value of Japanese Plarail I owned, till I hit up Ebay. Stuff like the D51 monorail or Egyptian railroad fetch quite abit.

Now you say that you see toys that have been 'hammered' i believe you said and they've probably had more play than a pristine one, i must be an odd one because i looked through all my old tomy, ertl and wooden Thomas toys and i would make my parents by me all the characters (from the look of all the ones i had in each set) and they all look brand new but my mom said i played with my Thomas toys all the time like 24/7. Thats a great question. My guess is they target Thomas because he's the one nearly every child can identify with. These copy knock off gangs are after easy income so for them sticking to stuff which is very popular wold make the most sense. I dare say a careful search on google would reveal if there are other TOMY knock off characters getting about

interesting video! i love seeing differences between things like this. the "tomy rattle" sounds like the rear axle cog is cracked. as for the codes, i know on the disney pixar diecast cars, the code related to the month and year it was made, but not sure if that holds for thomas or not

I usually took a black sharpie and color the parts that are suppose to be colored like that. And since the red lining on his coal bunker was removed by accident later in the series, I added it back onto my Thomas

The last part of the different Thomas jingle(it's the one in the middle, but that's obvious) got me a little confused, so I looked it up on Google. That's not depressing.. :P Perhaps you're right about the faulty Thomas- a new guy on the job made applied the sticker wrong, and in a one-in-a-million shot, applied it to a faulty Thomas. I'm glad you got it fixed, and showed us an interesting insight as to how these work, and how much they've changed in design.. Also, bad luck about Duck. :/

Great video! Over the years they made a lot of changes but that "fake TOMY Thomas" is pretty interesting. My son and I have been collecting Trackmaster engines for a while now and we have never come across something like that. I guess I wouldn't mind having one just to take it all apart and see what the logic is with the motor.

I only buy masses of Thomas stuff when I see it on sale. I picked up all those SSB sets for $20 ( the regular price was up near $50 ) and I saw a whole bunch of the starter kit Thomas sets for $10. The K-Mart where I go still has a mountain of Toby and the Whistling Woods....I suspect they will fall to maybe $10 is they don't move before this Christmas.

I have an even older Tomy Thomas. I have one from the original oval starter with the single red buffer, and tree. My Thomas has only 4 wheels, no feux wheels in the middle. Wouldnt part with it ever.

The fake Thomas is like Horace from "The Love Bug" - it's quieter, it's sharper, but it doesn't have the same charisma as the real deal (which would be Herbie, or in the case of the T&F franchise, the real Tomy Thomas).

I've figured out if you have a trackmastrer train with corroded battery terminals you can put a small piece of tin foil between the battery and the terminal to fix the issue

Interesting - saw a fake today, but not anywhere as good as that one. But why do you have so many Thomas's? I collect Tomy, but only have may be 10 Thomas locos. By the way the rabbit down the hole is a fairly standard connection throughout the Tomy train range.
