The middle wheel on all of the wooden railway motorised engines is to allow them to get around bends

I'm honestly quite surprised that the battery-operated models have continued to sell well enough to be worth continued production. As a kid, the only battery powered engine I had was Lady, but I almost always used my regular model. The only time I really used my battery powered Lady was to reenact the climatic chase scene from TATMR, as I didn't have three hands. XD Anyway, I do like the video, what with all the cool backdrops and such. It's nice to get professional, honest, and insightful reviews about the modern TWR line, which I still have mixed feelings about.

Great discussion! I agree, we don't really need TRW battery operated engines, as we already have whole other lines devoted to battery T&F related items! I used to have the second battery Thomas you showed, but the wire snapped that made it go so it only worked sometimes, but me and my dad sure had fun taking it apart to see why it wouldn't work! Also, it's great to see so many videos from you recently!

Awesome review. When it comes to Motorized trains I prefer the Trackmaster or Plarail system. I feel that Moterized trains don't really do it for me in Wooden Railway. I have the Old versions of Thomas, James and Percy from the Thomas Express and they do still work. (Mabey not Thomas). But those Engines go to slow that get stuck on the tracks at times and they can bearly pull wagons. I like to think that the Wooden railway brand is better when the engines are manually pushed around and have the Motorized engines for the Trackmaster or Plarail toys.

I just wanna comment on that booster steam car. If you look at it hard, with a vague knowledge of American steam engine specifics, it looks like a backwards version of an American Vanderbilt Tender. Vanderbilt Tenders had big cylindrical tanks for the water instead of square ones, with a coal bunker cut and inserted to the end closest to the cab. Heck it's even got a platform on the top of the tank. Yet, this one looks like they tried to convert it into a helper (or banker) engine. It's intriguing to me, and surprising that they used this as an inspiration, heck, long before Vinnie was even considered.

I really like the new battery powered stuff, and if I had to make a series using battery powered trains, I might consider it. Something I found interesting was how instead of flying down the hill, the train just kind of climbed down. I know the Trackmaster zooms down a slope.
@ThomasWoodenRailway8 жыл бұрын
The reason the trains don't "zoom" down the hills is because their gears and axles are locked up. The Trackmaster toys have really loose ones so you can push them along with your hand; these battery operated trains, on the other hand, can't freewheel at all, which is a shame.
@thomaseadbhardmcqueen75118 жыл бұрын
It really is. I think these would sell better if they could not only freehand, but also go backwards. I really like that the older models do that, and it seems not very many better powered trains go backwards.

Another factor that probably dictated who got a BO/BP model was a character's body shape or wheel arrangement. Characters like Emily (one big drive wheel on each side), Edward (a 4-4-0), or Diesel 10 (two 4w bogies) for example, would probably be impossible.

The Booster Steam Car sounds like a steam version of a diesel B-unit on an American railroad. If you don't know, a B-unit is basically a diesel locomotive with no cab that's controlled from the cab of a normal diesel, or A-unit. They're boosters in that each unit provides another engine and traction motors, and thus more power.

ThomasWoodenRailway Yeah, since now you have SO many TrackMaster engines used for railway show exhibitions, etc. I think it would make an interesting comparison. You don't seem to have Henry in either battery operated form? come to think of it, Henry is oddly enough pretty rare and higher priced in both lines, I want to purchase TrackMaster Henry but i think it may have to be a gift due to the price. I just recently bought TrackMaster Phillip (which is one i didn't see) and he is on his way to me now. I have run my TackMaster trains sooooo much innthe past few weeks that 3 of them (James, Gordon, and Edward) and completely dead and my 2 Thomases and Learning Curve Ben are on their way out, the rest go decent speeds still (Percy, Toby, and Learning Curve Lady) but Emily is still my fastest (and newest engine) and all of them started with fresh batteries around March 1st! I have pretty much run everyone for about an hours worth every weekday since then with a couple days off when my schedule got busy!

Great review... Reviews..? I don't know how to say that to be honest... But anyways, the battery powered models were never the best selling, as the models were a bit chunky, so to speak, which may explain why the models aren't liked too much. Sure, they may have more detail, but the reason of this is due to them being metal, so wooden items would be a bit more difficult to colour, but when you have diecast items, they can be molded with much more detail. Once again, great video!
