I tried following the pomodoro technique and it didn't work out so well. The initial 25 minutes would make me focused but when the break would come I felt like that I had disrupted the focus that I built up in the first 25 minutes. Also the 5 minute break felt a little too short for me. What I did instead was to set it to 45 min work and 15 min break and now I am working SO much better. I really like the concept but would recommend people to tweak the intverals to suit it better for themselves.

I also find 25 minutes to be too small of a time window to get any significative amount of work done, unless it happens to be a very small task. Better for me a larger amount.

I have tried the Pomodoro technique for years and never found it helpful UNTIL I got Forest. I use it every day. I love my collection of trees, I am motivated not to "kill" one by quitting in the middle of a 25min session, I can track my daily, weekly and monthly progress, and I enjoy spending coins on upgrades like ambient noise or new tree designs. I'll give Tide a try someday, but for now, Forest works for me. Highly recommend spending the 2 bucks.

It works for me, but I do make a list. Due to low dopamine it helps me focus which is my main problem. After about 15 minutes I feel like I'm going to die if I don't break. Then when 20 minutes is over and I have total focus, I get excited and wired. Glad to hear you don't have to break after 25 minutes.

The thing is, that might actually be a good way to ease into it, you could literally set and use the timer exactly like that, there is no reason it is impossible to do so. Then every so often, say every 10 days, you increase the work end by 5 more mins at a time until you get to where you are doing a more significant amount of work and less procrastination.

I finished a lab report in roughly six hours, which normally would've taken me a total of nearly eight by the time I put my phone down and started working. I also was able to read and type up a book synopsis in only eight hours, including my short five minute breaks every 45 mins or so. Thank you for this video! I'm definitely going to recommend the Pomodoro technique to friends and classmates.

something that i've actually learned through years of procrastinating is that procrastination is a habit and even if you start doing better during the first few months of school you will eventually go back procrastinating school works bc you're not used in doing productive things unless you really take your time to break out of that bad habit and start practising to become productive in that way you'll start getting used to it and you start to find things to do when you're not doing anything :)) hope this helps

I didn't know about writing down the list of attempted distractions, really helpful. Another huge thing for me is exercise. My body hates sitting there getting fat and achey. So having an actual break between each 25 mins and actually doing something - ideally returning to the task with a racing heart having done done pull ups, trampoline or skipping or push-ups or a tiny run out anything is awesome

Oh my goodness!! I had major problems with procrastination for many years. It has caused me untold amounts of unhappiness and severe depression, and caused me to massively under-achieve. Then a couple of months ago I had quite a busy day and decided to tackle it by writing down a to do list (something I had done many times before with terrible results) but this time devoting chunks of time to each of the tasks, so I told myself I had to do them within that timeframe or move on. Please note I had NEVER heard of the Pomodoro Method before watching this video. I used my mobile phone as a timer and noticed something interesting. Because I had to complete the tasks within the given times, I was really FOCUSSING on what needed to be done, which also reduced the number of distractions I gave into, which also used to be another huge problem. I found that using chunks of time (usually half an hour for me depending on what needs to be done) was the key. If you don’t complete the task, you can’t cross it off your list and I got a serious reward buzz from completing my tasks and crossing them off as complete!! Keeping to do lists and using a timer for tasks has quite literally transformed my life, it’s amazing. My days are now hugely productive. I came across this video because of another that Thomas had done on speedreading. I am so excited with my changes I was seeing what else I might be capable of achieving!!

I was using the Pomodoro technique and didn't even know it. I study for about 20-25 minutes and then I'll take a break and watch something random on youtube for 5-10 minutes. I do not, however, write down my distractions which I will start doing. Cool video

I started using sticky notes on my computer to keep track of everything. The colors allow me to categorize talks. The layout allows me to prioritize items. Anytime I think of something, just put it on the list and I know it won't be lost. It helps me know what's next and I also write out actions instead of goals.

If college was a video game level, Thomas would have beat it 100%, and found all of the Easter eggs. Great video, new subscriber!

I've been a subscriber of yours since my senior year. I've watched almost all of your videos, followed so many of your tips, and currently reading your book and it helped me A LOT! I got accepted in the best university in my country for low fees because of my high score in senior year as well as they helped me in my first semester at university and now I have a great GPA. I just want to say thank you thank you SO MUCH you're literally my favorite youtuber and I wish you all the best.

If you like Trello then I recommend the Chrome extension Pomello. It's a pomodoro timer that allows you to choose a task from your Trello boards each time.
