I think they should have allowed you to select the kind of jump mechanics you want to use for your levels, rather than use the New Super Mario Bros mechanics for everything. Also would have been cool to have to use different characters to play with, like Luigi with the high jump, Princess Toadstool with the floating, etc.

I would love to see what the actual tools used to make official games look like. I knew from the start that mario maker would be a seismic shift for nintendo, and it’s quite cool to see the curtain drawn back just the smallest bit as the designers showed us the critical facets that make a mario course (they make sure you remember it is a course and NOT a level)

Making _Mario_ levels might seem bizarre, but making/editing/sharing game levels has been around for a long, long, time. Doom popularized it, since it was the dawn of "online". But I recall Lode Running -- on the Apple II -- having a level editor and collections of user-contributed levels on floppy disk. Another game for the Apple II was centered around creating (Pinball Creator), and was the first drag & drop GUI I'd ever seen, using the analog joystick. This was in the early 1980's.

I remember when I found out about the game i would look at the trailer on the wii u eshop all the time, I wanted the game so bad so my parents got me the game for my birthday! I got the one in the box with the art book. At the time I rarely got new games as we didn’t have that much money so I played it a lot!

Super Mario Bros 2 would be cool in mario maker but it is much more different than 1 and 3 due to it having special boss fights, and also a slot machine, and items to kill enemies can only be found within grass, also it has alot of it's own level themes, so i can see why it wasn't added.

It's funny because there's evidence in some of the unused levels in Super Mario Bros. U that points to whatever interface nintendo was using to make levels lacking a gui interface. So the tools team never quite got their job done.
