I remember when this happened. Everyone was so excited wondering if it was gonna leak. If my memory serves me right, you forgot to mention that the "wrong files" that they obtained were promotion art work/images of the game that hadn't been seem before. Either way really cool and video and I'm glad i was able to finally see the whole story, instead of it being pieced together while it's happening.

i was at the time (2004) 24/25. i am a gamer for life. and i enjoy your investigative, educational and interesting videos. i just watched this, and it did not disappoint. we are (have been) truly in an information age. i couldnt help remembering during the video, specifically around the part of the '17 year old would be heister' about video games/tech/E³ when i was 17. playstation was about a year old( in the US) when i turned 17. N64 was *maybe* just out about the time i turned 17. FF7 was still at least 6 months out (i wanna say. all this is my best recollection) ill leave it there. thx for nostalgia trips. keep doing what you do!

When I was a teenager (and obviously a juvenile delinquent) my best friend and I had a bright idea that, instead of just sneaking a camcorder into a movie theater like most bootleggers, we would steal the film reel of The Phantom Menace and get rich because we'd be the only ones offering crystal clear vhs/dvd copies at the time. Back then it could be as long as 3 years after a theatrical run before a home release. We even went as far as bribing the projectionist to let us in the room. Needless to say our master plan got scrapped when we discovered how expensive it would be to convert film to video back then😂

i think there needs to be laws requiring publishers to make these demos available for historical archives personally... this is gaming history and it's not being treated like it should... we need an international body responsible for archiving this stuff like maybe the industry itself could play a part in creating this.. Ideally i think it should even archive game engine code and all published or publicly shown versions of a game.
