We had a huge landslide where my cabin is located a couple of days ago. The extreme weather Gyda hit the west coast of Norway with a lot of rain and wind. I had to go in there and see it with my own eyes. Fortunately, there was only material damage.

Beautiful spot on earth Tjommi which You have shown some of us in private outside YT. A place to relax and also housekeep for the future generations. As You say luckily no one got hurt. Imagine if yiu have been with tve kids on the shore fishing when the landslide hit the water, with the following wave. Brrrr. Great to see that you and Your brither team up and look after the house and land. Also interesting to document this, i can imagine a huge interest of this local and ofc from us followers. Let us see a before and after later when You have restored the boat house and old steamboat pier etc. Best wishes with the forward work and covering. /Mattias, the Tjommi

This is what my father always used to call "he holy place" 👏🏻 The place I go to relax and just take a breather. It is a little bit scary to think about how much worse this could have been. All the cabins were empty at the time, normally every cabin is full of people and family enjoying winter and family time with a lot of kids. So this could have gone so much worse. Where the flytebrygge is laying now, is one of my favourite places to fish. And it looks like the landslide hit between 08:00 and 12:00 In the morning. So it would have been game over if I was down there for one of my morning fishing trips. I will make sure to document before, after and old and maybe tell a little bit about the history of this place when the situation has normalised a bit. Thank you for the concern Tjommi...appreciate it. See you soon 🔥

No one was injured or killed which is the most important thing. Must still be difficult to see your family property destroyed. Are landslides frequent in Norway given it is so steeply mountainous with deep fjords? There was the huge landslip last year I think where many houses were pushed into a fjord/sea?
@tshansen
@tshansen 2 жыл бұрын
Without a doubt the most important thing mate. It is always difficult to see property destroyed, but there is not much we can do about it. Landslides are more and more frequent here in Norway. Not only the steep mountains and fjords, but quick clay and other other ground minerals has been washed out for years. Looks like we are in a time period where we will see much more of it in the upcoming years as well. You are thinking about Gjerdrum? The huge quick clay landslide where a whole street with x amount of houses was buried? That was one year ago. I was with one of the search and rescue teams over there. (outside Oslo)

Ja, alltid kjedelig med slike skader, men ikke så mye man får gjort med. Noe man bare må akseptere "kan" skje når man bor i slike områder. Takk for omtanken Jonas. Skål

Thank you Pål. I guess we get an answer of than soon. They have already been into the area and done some scouting. Not sure what the outcome will be yet.

What a sight would that been watching it live 🙈. Most important no one woke up floating in the ocean or burried alive as sometimes happen in Norway. Buildings can be rebuilt, not the old one unfortunately. It looked like it could tell few stories.

Nature fascinate me in so many ways. The pure rawness of it all and the force it can show sometimes. Just incredible. And you are right, as long as no-one is hurt, all the buildings can be rebuilt and we can live with that. Haha, I could tell you many great storys from this place and that old boathouse. 👏🏻 A lot of old war history here as well. But that will be around a fire with a beer in our hand😃

Greetings Tomas. Thank you for your reply. I am traveling to Norway with my family of ten, my wife, two children & spouses and four grandchildren. We are arriving in Bergen on Wednesday evening the 12th of June. I had hoped of hiring a private ferry from Bergen to Mostraumen on Friday the 14th but don't have any plans booked yet. I am staying with cousins in Bergen. Perhaps we might have a chance to meet in Bergen or Nottveit, I would like that. I can't add a file attachment here so will give you a listing of my family from Nottveit as far back as I could find. Mattis Olavson Nottveit 1601-?, Olav Mattison Nottveit 1637-?, Olav Olavson Notveitt 1648-1720, Nills Olavson Nottveit 1695-1705, Olav Nilsson Nottveit 1721-1765, Johannes Olavson Mostraum 1760-1849 (my 3rd great grandfather who moved to Mostraum), Olav Johannesson Mostraum 1803-1875, and Halstein Olavson Mostraum 1851-1941 - my great grandfather who emigrated to the US in 1873 to the State of Iowa where I live. I know my Nottveit family ran the flood mill. Do you know where that would have been located? I found you on facebook and will send you a friend request if that is OK with you. Regards.....Paul Skram, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
