I run 60gr and a round ball and 80 for a 320 real cast bullet it's worked well for deer and targets it's not like I shoot past 100 yards I chuckle when I see people using 150 gr of powder

I have a White Mountain Carbine in 54 Caliber. Have always shot it with round balls and black powder. Have got deer and caribou with it. Also have shot squirrels and gophers with light loads. Will be using it this year for whitetail. Great little gun, compact and easy to carry in the bush..

Got a 54 like that. Triple 7 burns great in mine. Usually use a mini ball with 120gr. Recoil is a little rough, but it will stay in a 2" group at 50 yards. I still prefer the renegade with an 8lb weight, but if I have to carry one for miles I love the WMC.

I got one free from my buddy. I plan on using next year for deer in Michigan. I've never shot a black powder. I'm glad I watched. Can you recommend a particular powder, cap, and ball/slug ? Appreciate any insight.

Pyrodex P is what I use for powder because it's the easiest to find but if you could find real black powder I would definitely recommend that. Also solid lead bullets are going to be easier to load and sabots are extremely hard to load especially after you shoot once but it really depends what you want and what it shoots accurately.
