Would you like another video on Roger Deakins' cinematography and what lessons we can take from him? Let me know down below! Also you might have seen in the intro that this is episode 1, that is because I want to introduce a new series where we talk about photography and filmmaking hence the title "crossings" so if you want us to chat about other cinematographers, movies just leave your comments. Thanks so much for watching :)

I think the reason he says colour photography is difficult for him is that when you do documentary photography by yourself you have no control over the colours that are there in the scene you photograph. When you do a movie on the other hand you're working with an art department and together with them you have full control over all the colours in the scene via the set design, costume design and lighting.

Thanks for this Tatiana. Very interesting. I think looking at the work of cinematographers is always really valuable for both stills photographers and videographers. Inspiration is always a good thing and we can always learn something. Roger Deakins? Definitely! Thanks...

Thanks for this fine video and yes, I’d definitely enjoy further insights into Deakins cinematography. I shoot mostly B&W with my little Fuji X100V so always enjoy your take on monochrome photography. 📷🎥😀

Great video, Tatiana! We (photographers) certainly can learn a lot from other genres like filmmaking or other artists. Other filmmakers/directors that I find inspiring: Christopher Nolan & Quentin Tarantino. I also heard that Steven Spielberg sees and thinks in 21mm (FOV). Knowing little things like this changes the way I watch movies. Keep up the great work, Tatiana.

I've often wondered where you find the time to create such sensational mini documentaries on such photographers as Jason Lee, Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, Brendan Fraser, W. Eugene Smith and Gina Lollobrigida. Plus create your own photography for sale your website. I've watched several of Roger Deakins' films such as 'True Grit' (2010), 'No Country for Old Men', 'Sicario', 'Skyfall', 'A Serious Man', 'The Company Men' and 'Dead Man Walking' for some direction or ideas with my own photography. I was unaware of Deakins' work with still photography. You can see Roger Deakins cinematographic influence in his photographs. The leaping dog is my favorite!! I don't agree with his philosophy about deleting images or throwing away negatives, however that is his choice. Thanks for making for us aware of Roger Deakins amazing photography. #Nikon rules!!!
