Loki has the best "villain" arc. Even though he does a lot of bad stuff throughout the movies, even though he has been treated like this his whole life and forever lived in Thor's shadow, he still loves his brother deep down, no matter what he might show on the outside, and Thor always loved him. Loki also has these moments of kindness and does what is right even if he is slightly frustrated with himself. He is one of my top 3 MCU characters for sure.
@Alewaxon3 жыл бұрын
What does "he has been treated like this his whole life" means to you? I've always found this question about Loki's background and what some fan use to contextualize or understand and in some cases even excuse his actions; that question has always been interesting to me and that's probably what makes Loki such a interesting character even tho I'm do land much closer to the side of the viewers who are much harsher towards his actions or that don't minimize or justify what he does and how he acts.

Loki has been raised to believe he is a true heir, and on equal footing to Thor. However in practice he's the black sheep of the family, always chosen 2nd, denied what he was raised to believe was his. When it came to picking the next King of Asgard, despite Thor being too hotheaded, immature and bloodthirsty, Loki who was by contrast calm, calculating, very intelligent, a master strategist and organiser was left aside and when he discovers he's actually a frost giant, the abandoned son of their enemy he sees why Thor was favoured, because he wasn't truly part of the family he loved. This doesn't excuse the atrocities he commits, but it does give him a compelling and meaningful reason for doing it. The Joker causes chaos for the sake of chaos, because he wants everyone to be brought to his level. Loki did it through jealousy, a genuine (and frankly correct) belief that he's more suited to ruling than Thor was and the feeling of being neglected, abandoned by his true family and then shut out and made second best by his adoptive family.
@JBWinter3 жыл бұрын
@@eddiepalmer9543 That's a stretch. Loki legitimately thinks he's the hero - he's WRONG, but he still believes it. The Joker is cruel because it amuses him, and solely because it amuses him

At around minute 28,, Director Sir Kenneth Branagh asked Sir Anthony Hopkins to improvise his reaction to Thor's yelling at him in the banishment scene. Hopkins agreed, and when the scene was filmed, many of the cast and crew present were sobbing. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston later said they had to struggle to keep their composure during filming that scene. Hiddleston later complimented Hopkins, to which he said, "Ken's fantastic, isn't he?"

"wouldn't that like crush him though" While the hammer is slightly heavy, it's not heavy enough to crush someone. But he's incapable of lifting it due to the magic of the hammer. But it's not pushing down. Think of it like if Thor set the hammer down on the 10th floor of a building. Due to the magic no one can lift it from that floor, but it would not smash down to the 1st floor. Loki's body where Thor set the hammer is kind of like that higher floor.

Random fun fact; In the early comics, Thor had a secret identity - Doctor Don Blake. Dr. Blake was a frail man with a walking stick, and when he struck his walking stick on the ground, the stick would transform into a hammer, and Dr. Blake would become Thor (Sort of like when Billy Batson says 'Shazam!' or when Rick Jones would slap his wrist bands together... Both would become a character called 'Captain Marvel', even though one was eventually owned by DC Comics... It's a long story...). The point is, they went to the trouble to shoehorn the 'Donald Blake' identity into the movie for those of us who remember...🙂

For many reasons this movie tends to be overlooked plot wise but it sets the stage of introducing more otherworldly forces to the franchise. Yeah Thor was a prick who needed to be humbled learn he wasn’t all that and his character development arc is similar to Tony a selfish arrogant guy who changes his ways from tragedy and loss. It also introduces one of my favorite characters Barton may seem like a generic SHIELD grunt who has a thing for outdated long ranged weapons but he becomes a vital character in the future.
@Alewaxon3 жыл бұрын
Great reaction! the Thor franchise and character have always been my favorites in the MCU so I'm always glad to see a reaction to it. One thing for clarification or context... You said that Thor's friends are mean to Loki and treat him badly and that's true they don't much like him; but while they do obviously have a preference for Thor their dislike and detachment from Loki is totally warranted given Loki's actions in the past, it's his fault that people don't like him... There is a reason why he gained the title and reputation of being a trickster and mischievous, he has done things to them, to all of them; some things get mentioned some get implied but the reality is that they don't like him because he is kindof an asshole... And he is an asshole in a different way that Thor is kindof an asshole in the beginning of the movie: Thor has a huge ego and a taste for battle and clearly needed that lesson in humility; Loki it's known to be something of a dick who does shit to others.
