Very good review. I have a Mora companion, I think it's called, and it's a very good knife considering I only paid $12 for it. Definitely can put some more expensive knives to shame. Making fire with birch bark is almost cheating (lol). There's not much of it where I live, and only some further north.

Thor-is-testing I was in Stockholm for a few days, but retreated north to stay with a close friend. Innansjön was a 2 hour bus ride north of Umeå. A small village with amazing little cabins for picnics or fika :)

I was raised in the woods, being taught by my native American grandfather how to survive in the woods, he was a farmer by trade but held nature to the highest regards. Hi! Do you often find yourself chop logs with a knife instead of an hatchet? I am just starting out with bushcraft and I've yet to understand if it's manageable in the long run (of course an hatchet/axe would chop logs better). I do some casual bushcraft, not hardcore survival at all.

I prefer the belt clip on Companion etc. Strong and useful, positive. Yes a belt loop can be useful sometimes, however it is easy to add a simple loop to a sheath but not to add a clip to a sheath. Kansbol can fit in Companion sheath, I think this will too. So it's all quite flexible.

I'm not fond of Scandi grinds for most things as it only has a short sharpening life until the grind gets too steep and literally needs to be re-ground. BUT for wood carving they are excellent. I buy some Lauri progressive temper blades with a Scandi grind and the edge is HRC 63 hard, that is file hardness and for carving wood it is excellent. I put nice handy handles for carving with a flat spot on top for your thumb. Wonderful blades.

As you have probably heard in my videos I think scandi is the best all-around grind. I agree white the sharpening, but do think that they are easy to sharpen also on the trail. hrc 63 is that not to hard want it chip?

@@Thoristesting Yes it will chip if you hit something hard. I sold one to a deer hunter who wanted a knife that could go through a deer without stopping to sharpen and I warned him about how it may chip if he hits a bone hard. He said he carries a small hatchet for splitting the pelvic joints and he'd be careful. He basically just wants the knife for field dressing and he uses one of my old D2 fillet knives (HRC 60-61) for butchering it down into hamburger cuts and roast/back strap etc. I don't do anything fancy with the Lauri 3 inch knife, just a small guard and exotic wood like purple heart or marble wood with a leather sheath and a nice border tooled onto it. He said he didn't know where he could get a semi-custom knife with a left handed sheath (he was left handed) for under $100, I sell them ($85) as wood carving blades, but if you're careful you can use them for skinning, but they're not exactly an everyday carry, EDC blade as chipping could be a problem if used beyond its design parameters.

Melusine Centun, hi there Melusine, hmmm I have been thinking about it, and in the start I did grade the knife on a point scale. But it seemed that most knife manage to get almost the same score, some are expensive and really nice knifes but I also find that it takes a true skill to make a quality knife for few bucks. So like I said it is very hard. Some are pretty some are no bullshit knifes. I love them both. Some are all around knifes some are camp knifes some are workhorse. I love them all 😀 U get my point. Though of course I have my favourite that I were when I’m not filming

It will have to be in categories them- High end: Fällkniven A1 or S1 (ill be testing the S1 soon), - No bullshit tough knife Terävä 140- On budget Mora or (Hultafors really cheap)- Pretty knife => Karesuando- Best all around for the money Mora Garberg

I like the review but the Garberg is not the first Mora full tang knife. They have (or had) al least two hunting knife models that are truly full tang and not the protruding stick tang. I never owned one but I remember them from when I was a kid so the models should be at least 40 years old. I'm not saying the Garberg is a bad knife at all but I think it's way overpriced. That multi mount actually holds in the knife/sheath combo with one velcro strap And velcro is no good in wet, mud and snow. I do believe the knife works well but I did not see anything you can't do with a 10 euro Hultafors GK knife or the Mora 510 for that matter. So is it worth the money?

It's like you were claiming Dacia is same good car as Lexus because you can visit the same people driving either one car or another. About the price, I just think Mora spoiled a lot of people selling good knives for the low price, but in this case garberg is really premium, both in terms of materials used, the quality and the level of finishing. If it was any other brand who made garberg, nobody would complain about price.

All Moras are the best bang for the buck, you won´t find knives which get you more for your money. Knives which cost 10 times more won´t do better in using them. And I like the Scandi-blades. But what really pisses me of on the Scandinavian knife form is the grip, because of not having a real finger guard or a finger guard at all. When it is wet, muddy or you have to do the red work, you might slip forward with your hand and cut yourself, which can lead to extrem injuries.

Addition of the nitrogen should improve corrosion resistance and hardness. Sandvik's recommended working hardness 55-62HRC. Very fine grained alloy, which is a good news for any type of the knife. I wouldn't call 62HRC very high, there are a lot of alloys capable of 64-68HRC, old and new. Still, very decent alloy, offering good combination of corrosion resistance, edge stability, wear resistance and strength Dilly Dilly.,,.p

The garberg doesn’t have moras rubber handle!! It’s hard!! And I feel the blade is thicker than what you would want on this size knife. I bought this thinking the handle would be like the mora companion but it’s not. I don’t have the kansbol but I wish I got that one. I don’t think full tang on this knife is necessary. I like this knife but I think the kansbol is a better option

Hallo there, Hmmmm ur right in that full tang is not always needed. I understand ur thought on the blade thickness, and i think i understand where you are going. I think I like a more vesile knife that I can use for almost anything. the Garberg is that kind of a knife. the kansbol i also a very cool knife, but more of a fine tuning instrument and not so versatile (in my opinion)

I like the video. The knife seems to perform well but is way overpriced imo. But now serious. You say a few times in the beginning of the video that this is the first full tang Mora, but you are Swedish right? You never heard of the Mora Lapplander series hunting knives? They are really full tang with wooden handle scales and have been around for 40+ years. So NO. The Garberg is NOT the first full tang Mora and I don't even consider it a full tang. It's a protruding over-molded stick tang much like Fallkniven. About that multimount system. If you are not using that leather strap covering the top it's only a velcro strap keeping your knife in place and that won't work in snow, mud, salt water, etc. If you attach it to your pack but now you are at camp and want belt carry you have to get the other ring with the belt loop on it, so you have to bring that also. That multimount sheath to me is an expensive gimmick. Just the knife, plastic sheath with the belt loop for 50 dollars would be an ok deal.

Hi there my friend, Yes I know :( an the stupid thing is that I do know about the Laplander series, what I think I meant is that in stores it is the only fuld tang, but Im not even sure that that i correct either. So my bad. Hmmm so you say it is a rat tail (Protruding) hmmmm have to get it out of store to check it, you might me right. About the mulitmount system, I think it is a bit better than you feel, but I see you point, and I to had a ekstra secure string (a piece og Paracord to secure it) Is it overpriced hmmm I realy feel it is a cool knife, and it is more expencive than other Mora, but if you compare it to other brands you still get a lot for your money, in my opnion

@@Thoristesting Americans usually will call it a full tang. I kinda agree with the way Fallkniven calls their knives like the F1 etc. and that's a protruding stick tang. It's pretty broad so I agree it's strong enough. Of course this way of building a knife is very good when in cold weather with bare hands. I wonder how much that multimount system adds to the price and I also wonder who ever uses that system. I wish they would offer the knife just with the plastic sheath and the belt loop attachment for lets say some 55 dollar.

scandis are.... okay at best. Honestly really disappointed with my garberg. Way too much edge damage only making a tiny pile of kindling. Way too much material taken off to make the grind. Grip is too hard and way too slippery for no finger guard. A companion has a much safer feeling in the hand even with no guard but it juts out a bit further so your finger feels way safer. No colors either. Mine also came unfinished, the lanyard hole wasn't even done and had sharp edges and flakes of metal inside the hole that I had to file out. My much larger cold steel cost the same, only it's way sharper even after chopping 30 times the amount of kindling. Super, super disappointed. At least the garberg is unbreakable, but that's really the ONLY merit it has and because it's just a solid chunk of steel.
