The villain is Hela, she's the goddess of death in the Asgardian universe. She's been accidentally released from her prison and now she seeks revenge. Hela reportedly will bring Ragnarok, which is the end of the world of Asgard. Hela is also rumoured to be Thanos's love interest, so it's tied directly to Infinity War.

SouthernNYCga but Thor did get banished from Asgard and had to earn his way back. He wasn't even worthy enough for his hammer. so it had its darker elements
