I had the same problem on my Harbor Freight compressor. It's got too small of wire gauge for extended inflation times. I re-wired mine with 10ga. wires and it now runs great with cold wire after 15 minutes.

I just purchased a Thors Lightning Pump for my 35" BFG's, and I found it to be an excellent choice. With the four-way air up system I can go from 35psi to 15psi in 3:20, and then back to 35psi in 3:30 on all four tires! Before, I was spending 30-40min airing up my tires one by one with a Harbor Freight single piston pump, so now I can be on the trail much faster.

It really is a game changer! Less time on hot trails filling up tires and more time wheeling them!

Ive used the larger Smittybilt portable compressor for about 8 years. On a 35” Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ, 35” BFG AT, 35” Cooper STT Pro, 35” Goodyear MTR, and a few others, it only takes me a few minutes per tire to air up to 30+/-2 PSI from about 18. That tiny compressor would absolutely suck on the trails. And an overheat from spending so long trying to inflate tires may have caused a surge on the fuse. This still wouldn’t have been an apples to apples comparison if the Smittybilt setup worked. But I do like the digital display and auto cutoff on the TL. Might be adding this to my kit.

Yeah it would have been an unfair fight but I wanted to do it to show what is available versus what I was using in the past. Thank you for watching!

years ago the Smittybilt was a pretty decent option. i bought mine with an extended 2 year warranty and it was well worth the money since it got replaced multiple times. smittybilt didn't give much peace of mind knowing it could give out at any time!
@DixieOverland8 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree there. I think it serves a purpose but if you're looking for a more reliable option especially if you're going off grid there are many better options. Thanks for watching!

How accurate is the gauge on the pump? That needs to be tested.

When I did my test it was accurate to within 0.5 psi but the separate tire gauge I used after.

Poorly made fuse holder. Bad connection to fuse pins and as soon as there is resistance in that connection it heats up. Heating up causes more resistance. Classic thermal runaway result.
