Actually, the reason behind the wound of thor not healing is that when kratos threw his axe in the lake of nine in the earlier gow 4 jomungander imbuned a poison that forbids the healing factor of gods

One way Think they could've done to draw out/improve Thor's second fight was to have him first bring Kratos to the top of Asgard's wall for round 1, down to the city area for round 2, and then the final round in front of Odin's great hall. As for Odin's boss battle considering how much of a leech he is maybe the developers could've had Odin use his spear to absorb Thor's powers(explaining his use of mjolnir) or use a spell to control Thor like a actual mindless puppet. Or hell have him use the eight-legged horse he had in norse lore as a battle mount like Heimdall had that big cat. That would've been a good way to make a entrance during the big battle.

8:01 Quick side note here, there is actually a reason why Thor cannot heal that wound. Back in GoW2018, when Jormungandr spits out the Axe, there is a tiny prompt that says "Eitr Imbued". In Norse myth, Thor kills the Serpent but its poison, Eitr, finishes him off, making the fight end with both of them dead. Since the axe has a bit of that poison imbued in it, it kinda makes sense for it to cause these wounds(although why tf it didn't work on Odin like that is kinda stupid if you ask me).

He still kind of is, just very subtly Before and even after he was by far the kindest and most reasonable of the Aesir, just like the myth, but in this version that is a very low standard As for his abilities his seem to be based on energy rather than light. He is super fast, so that fits. But otherwise it seems he can absorb elemental power and use it for his own will, like in the first fight he seems to absorb the power of the axe and snow around him to make his frost attacks. While in the third fight he is again surrounded by snow and uses it to enhance himself. After getting blown up by the Crystal at the end of the second phase he is on fire, likely because he absorbed the blast and is directing it outward. By the final phase he is switching between elements probably because of how many attacks from Kratos he has absorbed.

Yeah Baldur's final fight compared to Thor's was far better. There's literally 4 stages to that fight, and you're fighting all over the place. First fight near the river, then somewhere atop the mountain, and then back down, and then literally fighting atop Thamur. It was just a crazy good fight, the scenery was good. Compared to Thor... it was just one place. Baldur's theme, I do love. It has so many parts to it, most favorite being the part that plays when Kratos runs across the bridge to get to Atreus. But Thor's theme, you can just feel the sheer POWER. It's almost frightening when you hear it, his big bulky appearance and the way he just tanks Kratos' hits, he just feels so powerful.

I really felt baldur's pain in the first game. imo Freya was the real villain in GoW, she refused to let her son have a life out of her selfish need to keep the one good thing odin gave her, and in the end her actions only lead to pain for everyone involved. It was such bullshit when kratos said "I shouldn't have stolen that choice from you" in Ragnarok. Baldur was choking her to death, so Kratos saved her life, and if he let her die Baldur wouldn't just live happily ever after, He would attack kratos again, then kratos would still have to kill him, meaning the moral of Ragnarok is "If a woman wants to kill yourself, you're a bad person for not letting her." I know that's a popular sentiment nowadays, but it's just plain evil and makes me not care about 2 of the main characters in ragnarok since they're so retarded

Some may say, that Baldur was better of the brothers, but looking more into Thor, his tragedy is more relatable, father issues, addiction issues, dissapointed his family, its more human and you can see his grief whole game, every single of his face expression just shows you what is going in his head, but its so subtle, you wont recognize it on first playtrough, because in the first half you dont exactly know his whole story and may think he is just bored or hungover. Also because he is father who can just let lose and destroy same as Kratos, his final interaction with Kratos just hit better. But Baldur is more fun to watch for sure, and same with Thor, on first interaction you can interpret his actions as cocky crazy hobo viking, but in another layer he is destroyed by his "blessing" for years, like he constantly doesnt give a fuck when he takes beating from Kratos, he doesnt even guard, he dodges Kratoses punch in one cutscene just for fun. But its just a second layer - the blessing which is a curse in reality. You cant see what is going in his mind same as Thor, because he hides it. Only in hellheim you learn that he is actually depressed and in his last fight you can see his real emotions after the curse is lifted up. So for me, Thor and Baldur are on par, they have similar arcs and characteristics but just different in some ways and i am surprised that SM studios pulled of two kinds of the "same" tragic antagonist so well. But i must say, that every character in both games were excellent (Except Frey, he was just some marvel side character knockoff, Korg probably.)

i honestly liked thor as a boss and character more than baldur, although baldur was 1000% better than odin as a final boss. baldur felt really weird to me in the fact that he had literally no reason to fight kratos after getting the curse lifted by atreus, if he had any kind of common sense he would’ve left and came back for freya when kratos wasn’t around, he was a bit of a dumbass. for thor on the other hand, i love the parallels between him and kratos being destroyers and manipulated by their fathers into doing things they didn’t really want to. the interactions between kratos and thor are also some of my favourites in the game, especially kratos’ “you put him last, even in death” it just has great delivery, and the frozen lightning bolt was fucking sick. that being said the final fight with baldur was much better than the second thor fight, but i actually think that’s a problem with the way the developers made the story. having odin as the final boss makes much more sense narrative wise, but having thor be the final boss would’ve been a much better spectacle while risking being too similar to the first fight

I think Baldur not having common sense shows how deranged and bloodthirsty he has gotten. Thor does an excellent job as a parallel is great but what I find cool about the Norse saga is that Baldur can be a parallel to Kratos as well. A son who swore revenge on his parent and couldn’t find forgiveness in his heart. But when I look back however I do notice how much depth was added to Thor and I’m starting to see him slightly differently. The dialogue between them is the hardest shit of all time. Baldur is like Jack baker if he was a son of Odin and made a god. Personally I’d say Thor was better given the build up for him like Kratos seeing Thor as like a younger version of himself and trying to make Thor change for the better and Thor died at the expense of the change actually working of him standing against his own father and Thor should be worthy to be in the higher plane of existence so that he can reappear in the series to remind Kratos of his success at making even the most tragic change for the better. Thor had to watch his kids Magni and Modi die by Odin sending them out for Kratos and Atreus similar to how Ares took Deimos and forced Kratos to kill his wife and daughter and Thrud being the only child that made Thor go insane over is what Kratos does to Atreus. Gets angry and kills those especially as seen with Heimdall and Baldur also Thor watching his brothers be killed just like how Thanatos killed Deimos and how Kratos was forced to kill Hercules. Thor killed many beings because he served Odin just like Kratos when he served Ares and then served the gods. Kratos’s father Zeus left Kratos to be raised a spartan be left to starve, walked miles in cold, and be beaten till they couldn’t stand and Thor’s father Odin raised Thor as a destroyer to kill everyone for himself and told him he couldn’t change and made him believe that he can’t think and that thinking would only clout his way of doing the things he has to do thus making him get drunk a lot. They both decided to have changed however Thor died accepting the change. Sure Baldur couldn’t feel anything but would you rather feel nothing or be put in dangerous situations only so you can save your own life from your father and feel the pain and destruction and all that when you realize how wrong and bad you messed up. Also yes Thor is canonically stated to be more powerful than ALL the Aesir gods including baldur only to Odin himself of course. Thor also sees himself in Kratos aswell referring to them as “destroyers” also Thor calling Kratos a calm and reasonable person is more than meets the eye. Thor after a few moments of fighting Kratos then reveals he knows Kratos’s ghost of Sparta god killer past and consistently begs for Kratos alto bring out that power as Thor wants to go all out with him and have a good fight and him calling Kratos calm and reasonable is hinting that Thor isn’t scared of anybody or god just like how Kratos isn’t and will fight anyone till his last breath of death and that his rage could be as deadly as Kratos’s given that we heard and seen how powerful and deadly Thor is or can be atleast. Every Norse god and being was terrified and scared of Thor even his own sons were scared of him just like how the Greek gods feared Kratos. Ik Greek Kratos had many many many power buffs than Norse Kratos it’s still crazy that they compare Thor to Kratos from the past meaning that he could be as deadly to the Greek gods as Kratos was and given that Kratos thought he was mortal needed powers to kill a god while Thor during the God of War series kept on doing many many MANY things like killing Kratos then reviving him, destroying the muspelheim trials chanting “You think you can defeat the god of thunder” or even shouting how he’s a god and people should best believe and know that. He does the most deadliest and overpowered things to flex and doesn’t think about the consequences of doing so because he’s drunk.

Sad that they didn't put Thor's goats in the final fight with the wolves and Odin's horse in the final fight and him dying by Fenrir/Garm/Horodviltnir in the end,just like the original mythology where Odin's destiny is to be killed by the giant Wolf,Just like the Wolf being killed by the son of Odin Vidar the God of revenge and Tyr in Ragnarok being killed by the Wolf Garm,where they both kill each other It's a shame it didn't happen and they changed everything,I missed more Valkyries in the game and others Aesir Gods Odin's childrens and grandchildrens protecting Asgard,for example: Hermod,Bragi,Idunn,Forseti,Ullr,Meili and finally Vali and Vidar and Odin's brothers Vili and Vê Together with This Hodr would no longer be possible since he is a blind archer and he dies at the hands of his own brother Vali who kills him avenging Baldur's death And the return of the dead gods since in the original Norse Mythology they live and save Asgard and become the new Gods who will take care of the new worlds, especially Baldur who returns and becomes A new king of rebuilt Asgard protecting the 9 kingdoms and being the Savior/holy Messiah and protector of Asgard and Valhalla And it would be much better if Odin won the final war and adopted Atreus To become the as Loki and trained him to be the main villain in a sequel alongside the others gods. How great it would be If it were like that How I wanted these gods in the game,it's a shame they didn't put them... Who knows, maybe in a DLC or next game,let's hope And pray it happens... 🥺🤧 Like and Bye!

@@holty1314 Good question. They way I look at it, I think we could end his story off in multiple ways. If they really wanted to kill off Thor, I would’ve wished they’ve done it in a more grander fashion. Like when Thor says no, have him fight back against his father and force Odin to really show his hand as the Allfather, even if it’s brief, make his death fit for a god of thunder. Another way it could’ve ended is Thor not dying at all. I feel like this would benefit the narrative and showed MORE of how these once ruthless killers are changing their Fate, because changing Fate is a HUGE theme in the God of War series. He would also show better as an opposite to his brother who refused to change. Seeing Thor really move past the shadow of Odin and really fix the relationship with Sif and Thrud would’ve been satisfying to see at least for me. But I acknowledge the ending we got also fits into that changing fate narrative so it’s somewhat satisfying in certain ways. But yeah the alternatives are what I would’ve chosen personally.

You are missing some details on the Baldur vs Thor debate. I am gonna explain why Thor wins PERIOD. Cory Barlog said Kratos was very rusty in the first fight,he said he was still "shaking off the cobwebs" to be specific. Kratos was also holding back A LOT. By the end of 2018 Kratos is more warmed up again due to the journey and enemies. Then Eric Williams said Kratos was training these 3 years and that he is much stronger than in GoW2018. Thor is FAR above the rusty and holding back Kratos that snapped Baldurs neck. Thor also knows Baldur personally and knows about his curse. He will snap his neck after a short fight Thor was facing a much stronger Kratos that was forced to also try more

Disagree with one part. Baldur's story is sad yes but in the end he boils down to a screaming maniac who is bloodthirsty to merc his mom. Beyond that we see almost no other sides of him until he's in helheim crying. We do NOT get enough for him to be more than like a low B tier imo. But Thor? We have like a straight hour or so of Thor shit in this game. We have him trying to be calm and reasonable, we have him pissed off about his sons, we have him bloodthirsty and really trying to provoke the monster put of Kratos, we see his somber angry side with heimdall, a softer side with Thrùd, a more sad and subdued side of him with Sif and with Odin, and we see him actually make a change at the end with Kratos pleading him not to fight anymore. I'm sorry but end of the day, Thor is MILES better in terms of character. his final defeat WAS a bit underwhelming yes, he should have gone out in a way more worthy of someone who was so hyped up, I agree with you, however the story itself still hit, and he's still God of wars best villain next to Odin. also I really don't get why you said Odin was bad?... Like if you genuinely said all that deep analytical shit about Baldur of all ppl but didn't recognize the depth of Odin you must have a leak in ur brain
@TheNaturex20
@TheNaturex20 Жыл бұрын
You make a good point with Thor having more depth as a character, but Baldur being low B tier is just cap. He is a bloodthirsty maniac (just like Thor) but his motives are completely understandable. Not agreeable but understandable. I feel like at the end of the day, Baldur was a better villian he had a more of a satisfying end to his story than Thors. Thor having all of these scenes showing different sides of him imo makes his death WAY more worse because we never get to see him grow from that other than just saying “No” to his daddy. Tragic in a way but still kinda trash. It just makes me sit and ask what was it all for.

If kratos was the only one to kill balder temporarily in the first half of gow2018 then he was definitely stronger than thor,even when he was killable,he absorbed the elements and resistance of what impact3d his flesh and more agile,I might think of him be one the most unique and one of the most powerful gods in the gow series. Thor is a better anti-hero, and balder is a better villains,it didn't feel like he first bothered kratos for the all father, more like for himself. Baldur is not just beautiful, he is also the god of light, they should have had him like sentry with the evil side, and also compared to Thor knocking a younger serpent and having an annoying time against it, Baldur knocked an older, bigger, stronger Jormungand with his punches. And also, one of the writers of God of war Ragnarök said that the reason Thor disintegrates is because of the lightning eating him but from gameplay, they just want to remove his fatass off the field. The scaling's are already off saying Thor is the strongest and yet you have Baldur creating more amazing feats like the world serpent knocking with just his punches and destroying the ground as well which is more impressive than Thor knocking the world serpent and splintering the world tree when in reality, the tree didn't splinter, nothing happened, he just sent him back in time and is quite funny that happened in one event and not anywhere else. Yeah, the game as well felt off and rushed, there is even evidence to this as to the surtr quest, Atreus goes onto manipulate Sinamara to start Ragnarök as Kratos with primordial blades into surtr did not work, it's just pretty nasty and Kratos is just following along like a good dog.

Thor isn't honorable, in the first fight he literally snuck Kratos. Thor is also very noble in Norse mythology and is depicted as hero, in eddas there is this kid that ate Thors goat's, Thor did get angry and threaten the dude, but the guy offers to repay his debt by serving him, which was also considered an honor, loki, go to Utgard, where they are challenged are challenged by these giants in a show of strength, Thor is asked to lift the foot of a cat, which turned out to be the world Serpent, loki I believe wrestled with old lady, who turned out to be time, and there were two other challenges I can't remember but Thor definitely a hero in the Norse eddas, Odins spear is literally Dropnear which🤦🏿‍♂️, is the reason Thor, you know... died. Compare this to the Final Zues fight where he had to beat this God to a pulp over and over again for he actually went down. Throughout the 2018 game we keep hearing all these stories about Thor and how powerful, deadly, and ruthless he is. The first fight against him was amazing because it shows off a little of that but afterwards we find out he's just some poor dude down on his luck who turned to alcoholism as a comfort. I'm sorry but that kinda took me out of my investment of his character. If you're gonna build him up as the end all, second in command to Odin in the first game, many players were expecting a massive payoff for that at the end. But sadly it didn't happen. We didn't even get to keep him as an ally in the end because Odin kills him after Thor makes his peace with Kratos.

This. This right here… is EXACTLY how I feel about Thors character. While I didn’t mind his character arc and even liked it, there was just not payoff because Odin bum ass just wanted to hog the spotlight at the end. The frustration is real.

@@TheNaturex20 there definitely should have been a third game if I'm being honest, maybe after the Thor fight he lives, Ragnarok takes place and then Odin starts trying to get revenge on Kratos and Atreus for the destruction of Asguard. I can see Odin kidnapping Atreus at the start of the potential 3rd game and Kratos and Thor are the two characters working together to get him back. And if we're keeping Ragnarok mechanics we can play as Thor and see more of his side of the story as he tries to patch things up with his wife and daughter. Maybe even becoming the next ruler of the realms now that Odin is gone and promising to be a better king than his father was now that he's spent so much time with Kratos and Atreus

Thor is cool for sure, but he didn't live up to the stories that were told about him in the first game. Baldur has the upper hand right from the fact that we got to know him earlier, and his overall character is better than Thor's. Baldur's boss fight also felt a little cooler, and the boss fights with Thor and Odin just felt a little underwhelming. They needed more special cutscenes, and their powers should be even more extensive and cool. For example, I think Thor should have been able to shoot giant lightning bolts like Hraezlyr, and Odin should have the powers of the Berserker King.

Actually you are wrong thor hair is red I mythology. The painting you used is not accurate it was made much later of a artist interpretation.

I said that. I said Thor having red hair is actually cannon. I probably had the volume too low so maybe it was hard to catch.

Nah Boredur’s dialogue is bland at best. He has some nice fights but I prefer the substance Thor brought to the table of the role of Destroyers.

Preferring Thors dialogue is understandable but saying Baldurs dialogue is bland is cap. I feel like both of their dialogues are of similar quality.
