I was just diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm. I have none of the risk factors, and was diagnosed accidentally while looking for coronary artery disease, which I do NOT have. The only risk factors I have are three genetic defects. Also, this was discovered after orders from my primary physician's intern. I go to a teaching clinic, and it was the sharp mind of an intern that sent me in for the CT angio scan. The regular doctor just figured my symptoms were from being overweight or anxious, and ordered a heart monitor to "rule out" my tachycardia. This would NOT have detected an ascending aortic aneurysm as well as a CT angio. Thank heaven for that intern! Thanks for the info.

So, what was the prescribed treatment?
@lbburgett
@lbburgett 3 жыл бұрын
@@itsm3th3b33 The treatment is blood pressure medication that lowers my heart rate-a beta blocker. They initially thought the aneurysm was 4.6 cm, but the cardiologist did a better imaging test that showed it was only 4.2 cm. But the medicine will help prevent further distensión.

@@lbburgett .....The use of high blood pressure medications will definitely help with growth of your aneurysm, however your aneurysm will continue to grow in size (just at a lower rate of speed). A yearly cat scan will show the growth. Once an aneurysm has stretched your aorta, it will continue to grow.

@rwes2940 or Jack Nikolson....I was just recently diagnosed with a thoracic aneurysm aortic dissection (TAAD Type B) on 11/28/17. Per cat scan results, I am currently at 4.3 cm. I am a 64 year old female. I am scheduled for endovascular surgery on 3/12/18. My surgeon states that tubes have to be placed in my spinal cord for this procedure. I have elected to do conscious sedation. What were your procedures and your thoughts on this? I am extremely scared and experiencing severe anxiety about all of this.

@debrascott8492
@debrascott8492 5 жыл бұрын
@@peternapolitano860 .....Well...You made find this hard to believe - I cancelled my surgery. My then, thoracic surgeon terrified me (I lost faith & trust in him), and I should not have. My insurance company paid for two additional diagnosis's with two other thoracic surgeons that had been recommended to me. They also terrify me. I have since had another cat scan (July, 2018) at 5.3cm. Yes, of course, the aneurysm is growing. I am seeing one of the chosen three surgeons and another cat scan is scheduled for July 2019 (if it does not rupture before then). Here is the low down on the fear that I have. This aneurysm is located in the middle of my chest and I also had a dissection (tear) in my aorta. Endovascular surgery (they say) would be applicable for this surgery along with tubes placed in my spine to relieve any build up of fluids that would travel to my brain or kidneys. All three surgeons have told me that there is "high" probability that after the surgery I will no longer have use of my legs, no kidney function (dialysis rest of my life), massive stroke and/or massive heart attack. And this is why I am terrified. How does a person wrap their mind around this ? I am currently on high doses of blood pressure medications and prescription diuretics (severe side effects from all). I know my time for decisions is fast approaching and let me say that I do a lot of praying. Seems as though I am damned if I do and damned if I don't. I also find it very interesting to know that women only have a chance of 1 in 300,00 for a thoracic aneurysm. I guess I won this lottery.
