any time Thors reappears, I think it's really necessary. you have to remember him... the story won't let you forget. you have to miss him. when he died, it wasn't just that Thorfinn lost his dad... the world lost someone who really believed the things he said, and the world needs that perspective. "you have no enemies" is the show's thesis statement, and season 1 is a long series of proving grounds. that lesson from Thors is something that Thorfinn can't listen to yet... but Thors learned that lesson from the world. I think a lot of the tension in Thorfinn's character comes from wondering if a kid this angry and sad could possibly come to the same conclusion all on his own. I think the story of Vinland is an indicator that not all hope is dead. Thorfinn still carries that with him. it's the one comforting thing that he still knows how to say or do.

Vinland is actually the North America continent. So all this time they were talking about North America. And the name of Vinland was named by a real historical person, Leif Eriksson from Iceland. He is said to be the first European to set foot on the North America continent long before Columbus in early 1000s AD.

Ive just realized there are many foreshadowing for Thorfinn's character for season 2 shown in these 2 episodes. SPOILER!!! Thorfinn reciting that line about "far away there's a land called Vinland" something like that which he heard from his father, he said the same thing to a dying Arnheid. And he also literally just expressed his distaste for fighting, saying "who enjoys fighting in battles?"

This is why i love Bjorn and Askeladd. they're really a good duo. Bjorn really knows Askeladd well.
