Charls Carroll, comedian and streamer, is the star of the 16th episode of 'Thorinquiry'.
Having been through the public ringer himself for his comedy and arriving at a similar philosophical perspective on the fallen modern world I appreciate Charls's perspective and we explore such topics.
This interview was recorded on the 20th of July 2022.

I love that Charls checked out and carved his own path. The culture war is noxious poison where you can delude yourself into believing you are a martyr instead of focusing on simply making yourself a better person. Charls is a really nuanced unpredictable thinker and it seems to me when he opens his mouth he intends to make the world a better place.

this quickly opened my eyes to what you just said about how these political/cultural traps can result in deluding yourself of any worthwile progress to fixing yourself and your problems. really good way to put it! i can see so many examples of stagnation in life in others from being caught in the thick of the war going on.

As I make my way through this podcast. I cant help but notice the almost instinctual triggering of discomfort and terror in me when I am forced to confront my utter powerlessness in the shadow of the machine. school in the early 2000's was very close to the generalized experience you discuss. whilst you only briefly mention brave new world. It feels like society is organized almost precisely in that manner, every class is given exactly what they need to remain pliant and the alienation is palpable if you try to step out of the box. To add a personal story, I managed for a year to reach my peak physical fitness which was making it easier to strive towards independent freedom and more importantly potentially influence my mother to alter her (honestly fake) choices so she doesn't end up in an early grave, but never did I realize the relentless SABOTAGE would be perpetuated by those nearest to me. So now she is on the verge of death and possibility of preventing it is beyond the event horizon. a side thought that the mazes within mazes angle, the layers to the psyops strikes as containing an interesting parallel with dantes inferno, there is always another layer deeper in hell, but eventually you will hit the bottom and from there you can make your ascent through purgatory in pursuit of heaven.

The point about becoming pain before transcending I felt very heavily. At my lowest point I was wracked with some cursed weight in my chest. It wasn't stress- it was strangely tied up with my emotions and thoughts, and had its roots down to my core. It was like an existential pain, like a dagger had been thrown into my soul. I started working on myself after it became too unbearable to live with.

Damn the point they made about the need to be ready to accept wisdom, and how you can come back to something you read before and see it completely differently because you are different really hits. I was an atheist most of my life, 2 years ago I read the Bible and became a believer. When Charles says he say himself in those pages and saw that they faced similar evils to us today I got chills because I felt the same way.

I always found it strange why people who discuss things like oppressive societies, indoctrination, etc. always talk in this weird vague way. Talking with abstract, fuzzy concepts and never getting to concrete examples. Torin explains this in this interview by saying that talking in vague, abstract ways avoids painting a target on your back, which makes sense to me. I think it does devalue the conversation to some extent as only people can understand you who already (almost) know what you are talking about. And it makes it hard for the listener to distinguishing the speaker from people babbling vague bs. Then again, that might be the reason why vague criticism is not persecuted.

Very interesting to explore this stuff as usual. I get a bit lost when you really go into the thick of it, about history and the world and such base stuff that I would consider self-evident. Maybe I can only say I agree with 40% of what was discussed. But it's healthy to get other perspectives and try to form a better picture of the world to operate within.

The Screen is Pandora's Box. "Here" refers to a particular location. To simply "be" or exist, requires a presence either "here" or "there". Even the mind can be occupied. Safe and "sound" is a destination. The proximity of "here" to "there" is directly proportionate to their awareness of and influence upon each other. Speech manifests. Manifestation is the God-power. The phone in One's pocket, is the shit-stained hand of the puppeteer. Pandora's is a lidless box. To hear the message for what it is, or to remove Oneself from its influence, is to remove Oneself from the location the which is manifested by the message. If it has a source, it can be destroyed, and therefore controlled. "Paradise is exactly like where you are right now; only much, much better." Laurie Anderson -

So grateful to have found this. I've been living out of my car for a year and a half in Austin TX, and I haven't found anyone who has or wants to cultivate this awareness. I've wished I were insane, out of the soul-crushing loneliness and disappointment. I've lost everyone and everything, but am seemingly the only person around here paying attention. Those two aspects of my situation compound each other as long as One is unwilling to more shrewdly wield One's language. Language is what gave me awareness and continues to expand it. Massive gratitude for the reminder to not only hone the blade, but to let it teach me to dance. With new moves. 🔱
