Why is it purple? because it looks bloody lovely that's why. Let me know what you think of the changes! tried to make this as realistic as possible regarding budget and availble space. Also made the splash down a fake one because why waste all that speed? ;)

I won't lie, the purple looks amazing. There's a few places purple doesn't belong, but here, yes. Just yes. If only this actually got built but as per usual Thorpe Park have cut as many corners and gone for the cheapest option possible and the main part of the ride will end up feeling like a glass half empty and it'll all be over in about 30 seconds.

@@adamknight7041 it isn't really thorpe's fault matter of fact its probably merlins fault because they don't invest in the damn park and only focus on giving more investment to towers which already has enough for them to keep going for 5-7 more years while thorpe hasn't had a big investment for 10 years and they make it short its merlins fault not the park

As much as the purple looked rad 😎 I cannot help but think Thorpe's colour scheme of white & gold works better for the theming of the ride especially with that Phoenix logo but I'd have still much preferred this track layout. It'll be an intense ride for sure but about 20-30 seconds or so too short, this version would have been just about perfect.

This is such a brilliant improvement to the original concept! The extended layout, the colour scheme, everything. Really love it! Really wish Thorpe could see this because this would perfectly fill in their line up with some good air time and make it a proper hyper coaster. With the colour scheme and layout they could even give it a Sci-Fi theme or something not horror related, I could see 'Project: Exodus' being themed to a scientific experiment to create anti-gravity or something.

The track layout you have shown certainly intensifies the ride in a positive way, but you have added a considerable length to the track in order to achieve this. There is a huge amount to consider when deciding on a certain track layout. Not just from a guest point-of-view, but also from an operational point-of-view as well. Every metre of track designed comes with additions to design and simulation costs and timescales, fabrication tolerance stack-up calculations (still needs to fit perfectly at the end), construction costs and timescales, manufacturing costs and timescales, maintenance costs and timescales etc etc etc. It certainly is great to increase the ride time for the guests, but throughput per hour can then suffer bringing dissatisfaction with queuing times. It is an incredible balancing act, with winners and losers. They have to go with a solution that fits within the park's timescales and budget, but also provides the attraction of visitors to the park. A far as track colour, purple certainly makes the track "pop" which is a great thing, but due to UK Planning Regulations it is never going to happen. There is a reason why Stealth is white at the top and blue at the bottom, and why Rita at Alton Towers has random green strips of track at the top heights of the layout rather than red throughout. Even huge distribution centres have gradient paintwork on their exteriors for this reason, with white or close to it being at the top. Every effort has to be taken to remove the contrast between the skyline and the built object.
@lancehutch2 жыл бұрын
Most of your points here are wrong/just do not matter at all. I would know as I work in the industry. The only somewhat relevant point is the colour scheme. I just chose it because it looks cool, but it could work as long as it fades to white on the more elevated sections of track.
@whalesharkboyuk2 жыл бұрын
@@lancehutch wrong how? costs and timescales don't matter at all? When you have an exorbitant pressures from guests to deliver a new attraction into your portfolio whilst also mitigating the result of a pandemic on your business cashflow and capital. I could assume that the proposal thorpe park/merlin have outlined is a few magnitudes down from what they originally would have specified in their tender. I could also assume that the project would almost have certainly started around 1-2 years ago to get to this point of consultation, meaning a redesign just for experience rather than genuine engineering issues would be a huge project setback. As for the colour, you would have to start fading to white fairly quickly from the lowest sections of the track with that purple as it is in stark contrast to the neighbouring landscape. The reason I commented in the first place was because I admire the creative direction you take within your track layout designs in your videos, but was trying to provide some constructive feedback into the considerations you would need to prepare for if you were to transition from concept NoLimits layouts to real-world attractions. Also FYI, I worked in the industry as well. In fact, a lot of people have worked in the industry. That is not a very strong case.
@lancehutch2 жыл бұрын
@@whalesharkboyuk Costs and timescales do matter obviously, but as stated by Thorpe Park on the Project Exodus website and during the in-person consultation it was said that the layout is NOT final and that changes can and might take place to the elements, track length or final building placements. Parks will begin planning for an investment like this around 3/4 years before the ride opens. The timescales presented for this project made it clear that this ride would be a late 2023 opening or 2024. Now 2024 is pretty much confirmed as planning applications will need to be submitted and approved before Merlin can sign any contracts with a Manufacturer regarding track fabrication. (No point signing anything until you know for sure you can build it). Now until a planning application is filed ANYTHING can change. And even after this point, things can still change. Now to break down each of your original points... 1) "Every metre of track designed comes with additions to design and simulation costs and timescales, fabrication tolerance stack-up calculations (still needs to fit perfectly at the end), construction costs and timescales, manufacturing costs and timescales, maintenance costs and timescales etc etc etc" The timescale (generally, depending on the project) for track and supports to be manufactured is around 8-10 months. Maybe pushing 11/12 months for a bigger project. This includes all tolerances, clearances, calculations and fabrication. Maintenance costs would be very similar to the original proposition as in fact not a lot of track was added. It is very common for changes like this to be made within a YEAR of the ride opening (granted on a much smaller scale such as slight layout tweaks). Regardings costs, yes this is a valid point as construction costs would increase and also the overall cost of the ride would increase BUT these changes are very simple and wouldn't affect anything else really. You would be surprised how quickly track can be fabricated and how fast Steel roller coasters can be built. So as long as a change doesn't affect anything major (such as this) it would be very easy to implement as long as it fits within the budget. 2) "It certainly is great to increase the ride time for the guests, but throughput per hour can then suffer bringing dissatisfaction with queuing times." This addition would not affect the riders per hour number all too much. As Thorpe has already stated, they are targeting 1000 RPH. A real-world example is DC Rivals Hypercoaster. This has a RPH count of 960. BUT this is with a reduced train capacity due to the backwards-facing final car. With a normal car or even an extra car at the end, the capacity would sit nicely in the 1000-1100 range. It could even be possible to add a third train. DC Rival operates with 2 trains, but Exodus could in theory run with 3. Block set up would need to be Station block, lift block, running 1, holding brake. In NL2 this works smoothly with 40-second dispatches (which is a VERY short time for most coasters, and this is Merlin so... very unlikely numbers). With a third train, capacity can now range from nicely between 1000 to 1200 RPH. Colour-wise is whatever, I just liked purple :D Would stand out from all other rides in the UK nicely and if you started fading at say the height of colossus it would still look decent :) Hope this helps and glad you liked the creative direction!

@@lancehutch That is a very thorough response , which is very nice to see. When thorpe park/merlin state that certain things are subject to change before the project is finalised, they are referring to the consultation with the planning department for the local authority, as well as all the other government agencies such as environmental. All assessments with these agencies have not been finalised at this time, only assessments conducted by thorpe park/merlin themselves. Unfortunately, any change to layouts would be primarily to satisfy concerns raised with these assessments, rather than the excitement and intensity of the ride (there is a caveat to this however. Obviously if there was major backlash to the proposals of the ride then merlin would have to put the project on hold to investigate their next steps but as a risk averse company, this would be a last resort). In terms of fabrication, we are in agreement that the speed these tracks are built are impressive. But, the project still has to be finalised before steel work can commence so layout changes will cause delays to this. The fabricators would have to review the project as extra steel work will change their workload and then their timescale. I agree that thorpe park/merlin would have to place 3 trains on the system for the throughput to be sufficient enough for this layout. 40 seconds is VERY ambitious for any coaster anyway. Generally, dispatch times tend to be closely linked to the time it takes for a train to make it round at least 3/4 of the track for multi-car trains, or to a block brake that has been strategically placed to drop the duration time between each block.

I don’t think you’ve improved it. You’ve extended the layout, but all that you’ve really added is two copy-pasted hills. The most important part of a coaster is the end but this doesn’t really have a good end at just feels like it meanders into the brake run.

@@lancehutch the one thing that I don’t get is why people are complaining about hyperia’s length. I guess with what you’ve made, it doesn’t feel too long, but I’d still prefer a coaster that’s too short over one that’s too long, and I’m sure most people would. And again, the one that you’ve made feels a bit repetitive, especially since Hyperia doesn’t repeat the same element twice and it really should be kept that way.
