Although Jason fits Thors better, I actually love Greg Chuns performance for Thors. Even if it doesn’t exactly match the Japanese voice it just has a calming and cool voice that I just can’t help but fall in love with. It’s just easier on the ears.

I believe that Greg does a better job at representing the character over Jason, this might be better directing rather then Greg knowing what the character more then Jason. What I mean by representing the character better is just how simple and stoic he speaks, you have to remember he is trying to convince his 6 year old son that he doesn't need a sword and that he has no enemies. There is no need for emotion, the questions are open ended and calm, encouraging Thorfinn to think as he does rather then simply be scolded. I do like how Jason sounds here though, and maybe it's my own bias as this is my first time hearing Jason's voice for Thors, but i just feel like the calmness of Greg says a thousand words in itself.

Unpopular opinion it seems but Greg Chun wipes the floor with Jason Douglas. Honestly looking at these various Netflix vs Sentai dubs I’m happy I watched the Netflix dub instead, because Sentai missed the mark on a lot of characters

I agree completely. The man is tired, trying to be gentle with his six year old son, he’s not a bloodstained warrior anymore. He’s a pacifist, and trying to impart that on Thorfinn.

Jason Douglas translates a voice of someone who's seen battle and war very well. You hear disappointment in his voice but it is being delivered in such a nurturing tone one can't help but feel slight shame when being spoken to like that. He's conveying VERY well how a father would talk to their son. Kind but stern. With Greg? I feel as if he's talking to a child that's not his own. Just a random kid he saw picking up a sword.

I love Jason's Thors. Greg just sounds like every other dubbed actor these days but Jason's voice and acting is unique. I watched Vinland Saga in dubbed over a year ago but his voice still echos in my head even while only being in 4 episodes. The same goes for Askeladd's voice actor in the Sentai dub, also very unique and refreshing.

For the most part I like the Netflix dub all around, but Greg Chun was a HUGE miscast. Jason Douglas is by far a closer match to Kenichiro Matsuda's performance.

Out of curiosity would you have liked Jason to have played Askalad? Generally I find people like him as Thors but wanted him as Askalad instead.

THANK YOU! I'm so glad someone else thought so too. Nothing against Greg but I don't know what they were thinking casting him for Thors. He's great as Muzan in Demon Slayer, not so great here.

I prefer the Netflix dub version of it. It sounds better and like he’s actually testing and lecturing thorfinn. But sentai dub voice still did a pretty good job.

Netflix dub VA was Kaji in the Netflix Neon Genesis Evangelion dub and the Sentai dub VA was Mercenary in Grimoire of Zero.

Jason absolutely towers Greg. Greg performance is decent and does the job, but Jason owns the character more.

To illustrate. I feel like Jason does better with deeper voices character at that range. Greg does a servicable job, but you feel an undertone of a lower octave. While with Jason, you get full depth of deepness and comfort. If that make sense :)

I’m going to have to disagree. Greg really portrays the soft yet strong nature of Thor’s much better. Jason has a deeper and more commanding voice. Greg has much more emotion and depth that fits him well

(Sorry I'm going on a commenting binge, lol. But this is the best footage I'm able to find of the Sentai dub so far). I've told so many people this (and someone else said it below as well) but Greg was a very bad cast choice for Thors. Greg's a great actor on some levels, personally I feel he has issues differentiating his voices (In Fire Emblem Heroes, he plays Eldigan, Ephraim, Ike, and Lukas and they ALL sound the same except for Fallen Ike; the last one is the only one where his voice gains range) but he's still great at acting. He's fantastic as Kibutsuji Muzan in Demon Slayer, but that voice doesn't fit a giant like Thors. I don't know what the voice directors were thinking when they cast him. Jason Douglas was perfect, he sounds appropriately deep and his voice carries the emotion of a father trying to steer his son away from the violence that overtook his own life.

I prefer Jason over Greg. I like Greg's voice as Yagami from Judgment but Jason voice as Thors is a lot better because it goes with the character's personality & his age.

I saw this in Japanese first, and Jason sounds like the English language counterpart to Kenichiro Matsuda. Greg sounds off, there is no world-weary feel to his voice.

Jason Douglas is the best, delivering subtle nurturing, yet firm tones and nods to his history through his delivery, but Kenichiro Matsuda is great too. Greg Chun lacks the strength, confidence, nurture and thoughtfulness in his delivery that the other two have.

Jason Douglas Sentai is better. Thors is almost like a mythological, legendary type character. Both hardened warrior and wise sage and Douglas makes him sound just like that. Greg Chun is probably a good actor but he sounds too much like a regular guy for this casting imo.

Greg might be a good voice actor, haven't heard his other roles, but he does not fit Thors at all. Idk what people are smoking. I get if you like The Netflix dub for Kirk as Askeladd, but Greg isn't a strong point
