I was there! And 53 years later, it is still the best concert I've ever been to! "Closer to Home/ I'm Your Captain" was the anthem for us Vietnam era generation kids. We were all one big family that night. Grand Funk rocked the stadium in the truest sense of the word! In fact, they almost stopped the concert because the authorities actually thought that the stadium was going to cave in from our jumping up and down in the bleachers! Oh, what memories !!!!

No cell phones, no fancy light show, no dancers. You were there for the music and you got it. Big time.

They were so popular in the early 70s that our BOE . chartered 2 Grayhound Busses to take 80 students and 20 teachers to see Grand Funk in Feb. 1973, at Charleston , W. Va. I was in 12th grade, I had hair down to my belt. I met Mark after a solo concert in 2008 in Potrsmouth ,Ohio.. , nice guy,, He was the reason I grew my hair so long.

I saw Grand Funk Railroad in Concert in AMSTERDAM in the early 70's and the Drummer was playing from the start through the break and continued till the show was over. It was EPIC.

I was there and it was as much fun as it looked. We rocked the place so hard they later brought engineers in to make sure the stadium had not moved on its foundation. On their live album Mark Farner asks the fans in the front not to get on each other's shoulders so the people in the back can see.

I love watching you three react to these older bands music. I was never fortunate to see GFR in person but danced to their music at parties and just hanging out with friends. What’s amazing is the majority of the young people enjoying this concert, having so much fun are now around my age (72). We could party with the best of them! 😂 Keep up with the great videos, brings back so many fond memories!

I was supposed to go to this concert but i had just graduated high school in June and had to work the next day and when i suggested to the boss i may not be in any shape to work he said if i didn't show up i didn't have a job so i didn't go. The bleachers that have you nervous also had the guys in white shirts nervous....they are engineers and because of those bleachers they closed things down early.....many people were upset at the band for the short show not knowing it wasn't their choice,

I saw them up close about fifteen years ago-it was soooo surreal. This is one of my faves from them. This was their second-to-last song, they closed the show with “American Band.” So awesome.

Omg I bet that was awesome.

Mark Farner wrote most of their hit songs. A few were covers too. Today GFR is a cover band. Mark Farner is GRAND FUNK RAILROAD heart and soul.

I agree about todays GFR is a cover band because no Farner no GFR

That was the actual Stadium bouncing up and down the structures we're moving so they called Structural Engineers during the concert for fear that the stadium May collapse this was the last concert at Shea Stadium for fear of people getting too rowdy in the stadium coming down

GFR we’re the real deal. From the late 60’s through the mid 70’s they sold millions of records Oh listen to “Foot Stompin Music”. There’s a live video out there somewhere.

I am a Texan from Corpus Christi. Well let me correct myself.I am a Tejano a Mexican born in Texas the Alamo all that thing when grand funk would come to play. We had no choice but to sit outside of the auditorium because it was sold out. But they were so f****** loud you can hear them outside and we enjoyed it by the Bayside the ocean😊❤

They sold out Shea stadium faster than the Beatles did. Did it in 72 hrs, The Beatles took considerably longer. This was an anthem the soldiers from Vietnam listened to and requested. Love Mark Farner. Saw Grand Funk Oct 28th. Not the same without Mark Farner, but still good ❤ in 1972, they added a keyboardist.

He goes on about being sick, lost and alone at sea.... Even questioning if he's dreaming or if there's people taking the ship. The ending always brings tears to my eyes because I feel like his mind, life, and boat are all drifting away.... maybe closer to home is heaven. He just keeps repeating it over and over like he's slowly going mad from fever. Either way, the moment the sad violins play is when I always lose it.

If Lulu likes eather pants , she needs to see an old video of Steppenwolf . Lead singer John Kay used leather pants and shades as his trademark look . Although the shades were out of necessity, as he is legally blind , extremely light sensitive, and color blind .

All the bleachers were swaying , the Stadium was oscillating. engineers were brought in, and they almost shut the show down due to real fear the stadium would collapse. Those are cement bleachers that are not suppose to move.

Listen to (Foot Stomping Music) on a really good sound system....an album if you dare.....And the first song you played by Grand Funk....It was a live take....They have their place but in this case what we need is the best clean sound that can be found and that's the studio version...Mark plays it differently...just a little.....I'm sorry I bothered you, but I had to set the record straight ....
