My friend owns a mattress factory in Florida. His employees are mostly Trump supporters who believe they will make more money. He just told them there will be no Christmas bonuses this year because they need the money to hoard as much materials as possible before the tariff. Mostly imported from China. They just can't source the same quality fabric domestically. It's not even about the price. He kindly announced it early so the employees wouldn't be racking up credit card debt with the wishful thinking that they can pay it off in January. The employees were so angry, there's no way to reason with them. So he's calling it a "transition period." I think a lot of them believe Trump will bring back manufacturing and the company will be able to source fabrics domestically. They are still hoping for larger bonuses in 2 years or so.
@TiredoldFox12 күн бұрын
Yes, there will be a transition period where things are going to be a bit rough until new supply chains are established domestically. The same type of thing happened when all of the manufacturing left America in the late 90s, where millions lost their jobs, as companies offshored to China under the free trade deals of Clinton that allowed American companies to take jobs away from Americans, and hide their money overseas, while taking advantage of basically slave labor and zero regulations in China and other nations.

The idea that tarrifs are punitive towards "foreigners" who they've been told are responsible for all their problems is so simplistically naive that only an angry maga supporter could ever think it was true. At a very shallow level, yes, if you penalise foreign imports, then that allows local producers and manufacturers to move into that space, but that's such a childish understanding of the situation. In reality, even if American manufacturing was able to move into that space (and it's debatable whether that's even possible - where are they going to get the raw materials and the labor pool from ?) , they would be selling their produce at the new higher prices, because that's the whole point of the tarrif - to raise the cost of cheaper foreign goods up to the level where they're no longer cheaper than the cost of local products. Nowhere does this result in lower local prices for consumers. The problem is that the MAGA cult was successfully brainwashed into seeing tarrifs as a punishment on people they hate, and that's all they wanted to hear.

What is a tariff? Tariffs 101: A tariff is an import tax on goods [merchandise coming IN from another country] If there is a 30% tariff on iphones (ie. from China) that 30% tax by the U.S. government - TRUMP is putting that tax on iphones. China, nor the chinese manufacturer ARE NOT paying that 30% tax. It's the U.S. business/manufacturer that incures the 30% tax cost. Now, do you think.. A) the U.S. business absorbs the 30% cost, cutting into their profit? Or B) Do you think they pass this cost onto the customer/consumer and increase the cost of the iphone? *If you didn't say B) I really don't think you have any hope of understanding anything! Ever!* As tariffs go up, the cost of the product goes up. China doesn't pay..the business doesn't pay..and Trump doesn't pay! If the argument made that they're going to raise tariffs to force manufacturing to come back to the U.S. so they can increase manufacturing on U.S. soil, fine..*however* costs are still going to go up, because there is a reason manufacturers left the U.S. in the first place, to get.. - cheap labor - no environmental regulations - no health and safety protection for the worker The only way to bring this back to the U.S. and watch costs go down, is to.. - break unions - lower wages - ignore environmental regulations - ignore health and safety *..and if you think that's for the worker - again - I can't help you!* Trump DOES NOT CARE about the worker nor the low to middle income class

After years of using real trees, I honestly can’t tell the difference, and the best part is I don’t have to sweep up dead pine needles anymore-win-win! However, the CEO explained that if they were forced to manufacture these trees in the U.S., the cost would skyrocket to around $3,000 per tree. He doesn’t believe Americans would be willing to pay that, and honestly, who would? This highlights a major flaw in MAGA logic. They seem to think everyone is clamoring for minimum wage jobs while ignoring the fact that they’d be the first to throw a tantrum if they had to live on those wages themselves. If forced to, we could manufacture a lot more stuff than we do. Tariffs would probably make that more likely.
@ComedicLetter11 күн бұрын
That’s the thing, we have the supply base. If we improved our manufacturing sector, we could be nearly self reliant. Of course, we’d still be reliant of food imports (unless we genetically modify up some fruits)

@@gameburn178 you have to be willing to pay ppl living wages like before... it take yrs to build factories, have ppl with the knowledge to run it, and then have a market for it... Americans love temu and dollar stores. everyone has to be paid decent wages with increases to afford to buy the products you make. many factories have automation built in so less ppl to run things than before. the last time another prez tried tariffs you hit a depression. last time trump was in power he killed farmers and family farms. add to that you do not have enough ppl to farm those lands and trump wants all non whites gone.

Bring back manufacturing jobs….those jobs were outsourced because labor were much cheaper abroad. Your electronics, chips, furniture, cloths would be many times more expensive if it was manufactured in America.
@jwilson144412 күн бұрын
And the old union wages will never come back. Those manufacturing jobs MAGA is hoping for? They will be minimum wage, no overtime, skeletal benefits.

@@jwilson1444 And the CEO and shareholder overlords will continue to give themselves higher paychecks, and pay less taxes (as a percentage of income), further widening the wealth gap!

it's always nice to hear something good about canada. Now, if only you can convince the half of American on how ridiculous they are in voting for Trump and how that's going to backfire on them. I hate to say it, but it serves them right. Keep up the great work, and always keep a positive attitude 👍. From your neighbor Canadian .

Canada should stop crude for a week and send a message. All the media is NOE trying to explain tariffs. 39 billion in Canadian Lumber per year, hurricane zones re-builds will sky rocket.
@SarcasmIsMyGame_12 күн бұрын
On top of that, expect the sudden inflation to generate price gouging by the remorseless billionaires for whom Trump is working for. They did it during the pandemic so why would they stop?? They'll be no adults in the room!

A lot came from Mexico too, so let the trade war begin lol, we will suffer but mostly will be Trump voters.

70% of all fresh produce imported into the US, comes from Mexico. The crops picked in the US are picked by migrant workers. People that are desperate enough to work for wages that no American would work for or work under the conditions they work in. I'm pretty sure that a local egg supplier ships to the US. You voted for cheaper eggs? 25% tariff just drove your carton of eggs up.

The problem with Trump supporters are they receive their information from Fox, News Max, right wing radio and social media..not mainstream or alternative news sources so I assume no one dare go against the orangeman and actually explain how tariffs and his other policies would affect them

Might as well make it 30% tariffs to make up for the soft wood lumber court ruling that the states is still in breach of.
