I actually just argued with this guy in his comments section. He genuinely seems clout driven and egotistical. He constantly brought up how other people weren't responding negative to his videos as if that means he's correct and he dragged on a discussion about the whole Cool Kids being Ronaldo's bullies shit until he realized I had an actual argument against it and then he immediately shut down the conversation. Also if you look at his view count on his vids, he's obviously only making the SU vids for views. He made a couple SU vids in the past amidst a variety of other content and his views dipped dramatically when he stopped making SU content, only to spike back up when he was making more SU stuff.

I figured out months ago to just completely ignore any and all channels like this, the trend started back with channels focused on Spongebob and Family Guy. You always know it's one of those channels cause they usually only talk about one show, and they all do the exact same lazy thumbnail format of a character over a white background. The whole Stevonnie thing is super weird, but I mean, thinking about it, there was some post that said Stevonnie's age was Steven and Connie's added together? I don't know if that was canon, but it would kind-of explain a lot. When gems fuse they get bigger, so when Steven and Connie fuse they just kind-of grow up and people start leering at them because they don't know Stevonnie is two kids in the body of a teenager. I don't think there's anything really more to it than that? They just took the rules of the show, used it to do something that makes logical sense, and then it just kind-of turned into a bad trip as they began to get overwhelmed by this super weird abnormal situation neither of them have ever dealt with before. Like, I don't think there's a wider point outside of "Stevonnie was an experience and it went bad, so we're going to be using this form sparingly now." That honestly seems pretty in line with most fusion episodes early on, there's always some problem around or some unexpected element to the fusion that keeps it from being the easy answer every single time. Stevonnie's issue is just social anxiety and some weird as fuck experiences they weren't ready for.

Yeah, to me the Stevonnie thing always felt like hitting a growth spurt with puberty in a way? Like, especially if you're a girl (which, I guess you can say that Stevonnie's first appearance leans a bit more on the feminine side? Though they're very androgynous for the most part), like, in the way you suddenly grow older and people start looking at you in a different way despite the fact that it's just you and you're not sure why they look at/treat you different. And in a more general way, it could also be a metaphor for just growing up in a very similar way. Like, you're 18/20 and suddenly you're supposed to be a lot more mature and understand things that maybe were never explained to you, so it feels very overwhelming

God, the Robobuddies video was so long ago, lol! I remember watching her SU takes and I'm just like "These are bullshit, these arguments suck!" and I somehow ended up in her response video. I feel like I made a good case, too, even the guy responding with her was like "Yeah, that makes sense", lol! I used to love that video, because of how they talked about fight scenes and composition. I don't remember their points specifically about SU besides the points that Lily ripped off. If you don't mind answering, do you remember some of the points that you made?

@@simonclover1954 It's been forever, but I remember one of the major sticking points for me was Robobuddies really focusing on how important using the environment is in fights and she was complaining about how Steven Universe fight scenes felt stale because of this. But it's like, using the environment isn't really key to making good fight scenes? It's just a neat thing to do and there are tons of great fights that feel distinct from eachother that don't do that. What makes it feel even weirder is that Steven Universe does incorporate the environment a lot? Off the top of my head, there's Pearl vs. Sugilite, where Pearl is completely outmatched and the whole point is to lead Sugilite to a cliff so she can outsmart her, using the environment to break the ground and send her falling. There's also Garnet vs Jasper that had Jasper pound Garnet through the floor and use the curved walls to spindash around like Sonic before Garnet throws her into the power core. I think you could make a good case for Lapis using whatever water is around her, too. The Watermelon Stevens help against Malacite. Jasper grabs a corrupted gem to fuse with. Amethyst uses her whip to throw rocks and stuff around all the time.... I'm pretty sure a ton of the corrupted gems got taken out by people using whatever's around them to get an edge over them, too. It's such a weird complaint because Steven Universe isn't even a battle series? So it feels like even this is already more than they really NEEDED to do. Heck, it's honestly more than most actual shonen battle series use the environment, if you think about it. The whole thing really felt like there was just one or two specific fight scenes she didn't like and she just went "Oh yeah, the action is bad because these ones didn't do the thing". There was more, but I'd have to go look at it again to be sure. I think she also criticized the show for being off model a lot? Which, I mean, yeah? But it's a Cartoon Network show that's trying to do fight scenes and musical numbers, so it's pretty fair that the characters just grow and shrink every now and then. It's a pretty nothing thing to worry about and I don't think anyone's enjoyment was actually effected by stuff like Peridot becoming smaller and less angular looking after she lost her limb enhancers.

It's not really "not liking how he thought about things", no one really attacked the onion family theory iirc other than it not having anything to do with the supposed point of the video and it having almost no evidence (though it's a fun idea). It's that he goes off topic multiple times, proposes an idea (I.e "bad parenting in SU") and instead of explaining it, he goes off to talk about the comics that weren't even written by Sugar (while claiming they were written by her) with little to no relevance (i.e the video about Greg being a bad dad spending more time talking about a comic where Bismuth gives the townees weapons instead of talking about why Greg is a bad dad). And in many cases, it just seems like he wasn't even paying attention to the show because there were things that were either already explained, or that were a metaphor he didn't grasp. Like Sai said, if he wanted to talk about the comics, he could've done so without having to sneak it into other videos; the lunar flowers comic or whatever had nothing to do with redemption, why even talk about it in a video about redemption and not make it its own video? The editing is its own monster, but honestly the script is just bad
