Teaming up with the great Liam the Terrible..what could possibly go wrong? He will definitely do you right and give you a space to be proud of. I was recently thinking this van life malarkey was getting a bit stagnant with everyone doing the same as everyone else but this project has definitely reinvigorated my interest and with the legend that is Mr Terrible putting his two peneth worth into it this will be awesome viewing. You’ve both got balls of steel taking on this project, good luck, may it make your journey that bit more exciting. Looking forward to both vlogs.

That’s not a van it’s a lorry. I’m sure it will be good when it’s done but it will cost a lot more in fuel and there’ll be some places you can’t go or park easily. At least you’ll have a longer bed though.

I think it's a very brave choice, however I'm sure Liam the Terrible will create an amazing space for you, I think you need to lose the signage it's more risky for break in as potential thief's may think its a loaded van with thousands of £££ furniture inside. Other than that it's a Luton, and I've driven many Luton, easy to drive and you will soon get used to bigger size, plus you will have room for bikes, so if parked up somewhere and you want to explore you will have more options. Loving the channel and L the T of course, watching you both with excitement can't wait to see the finished build, good luck all 😁😁😁😁

I would suggest not putting the bed in the top part of the cab it will feel claustrophobic after a few nights sleep and it’s difficult to make the bed ! use it as storage space / a wardrobe / a pantry / work space even a carpeted beam bag tv area . if you have the money Get an electric bed that raises up and down . It can be as big as you want and gets out of the way . I would run your kitchen across either side near the rear end as you have no windows and the back doors will be you best ventilation spot . Possibly add 1 skylight in the roof for some added natural light . Lastly I would keep the signage on the van way more stealth looking and will save you money . You can always change it later down the line . Can’t wait to see what you do with this build !

Good choice, you definitely need to create an access through to the cab, with a flexible rubber seal like on a train carriage.

I think that strengthening the roof would be awesome, imagine sitting eating sandwiches on your roof on a seafront somewhere in the summer, or just relaxing on your roof on a beautiful summer starry night, somewhere peaceful and private, or even just installing solar panels, the possibilities are endless for you. As a 65 yr old, I say do what is your passion and what makes you happy! I have spent far too much time in the past thinking of the pros and cons of things, to a point that no decision is made either way. If it turns out wrong for you, then you can change it and it will be perfect for someone else. I instantly thought of all the cupboard space that van provides! Your wife may need a little step stool, but if the cupboards are tall you can store less used items, or off season things on the top part of the shelves. Our dream is to sell our house here in Ontario Canada , buy a smaller house and buy an Ascent TS or Lexor TS Pleasureway van from Saskatchewan, Canada.

P.s. to help Janine overcome fear of driving a big van, could you take some driving lessons in the van who will teach, reversing, parking etc. You never know when you may need to share the driving if there is an emergency, sickness etc.

Hi guys, congratulations on the van. Can I suggest before you start that you weigh the van......take that net weight away from 3500kg which is the GVW. It will let you know how much weight you have left for your build. Use your materials wisely. Good Luck .

Congrats on the purchase! Regarding the sign-writing, I’ve never heard of a removals van getting broken into. If I saw one parked at the side of the road I would assume it’s empty. Definitely add access between the cab and the rear, there’s really no reason not to (bar cost/effort) and the benefits are huge. Also, well done on getting on trending!

Skylight window above the bed 100%. Onboard toilet/shower, then just units where possible and tables that can turn into seats. (or extra bed for those times you argue and want space, or have a friend tag along) The doors of the van (on the side) would be perfect for a projection screen, can use a short throw projector to project on it. I would also add that door from cab>back if possible will be amazing in heavy rain! Think about getting soaked, wet and then having to run out and around to get into the back. Dirty the floor and everything thats no fun. Oh and for the outside of the van change the signage to something really undesirable just a totally fake business such as mobile fish monger or something.

I'm 6ft 4 and know too well about the issue with the bed length in a camper. Glad you have made a decision to go this way, it's totally going to be worth it! That stretch to align your back, extend your legs is just so nice when you feel fidgety at night and OMG the frustration of a bed being too short so you can't... Good luck with it all!!!

A wood burner is a good idea and you don't get the condensation problems, but keep a diesel heater as well for those city park ups where you don't want to be sending up smoke signals! Wow you packed a lot into that episode and it was so well made. We could feel the pressure of making that huge decision but as you said you have one life and you must live it. Give up the doubts now and make it work. We have no experience of building out any van but with a clean sheet on the inside there are a couple of things I would want to make sure were covered. The first is preventing condensation forming on the underside of the bed area. Hopefully there will be a way to ensure air flow under your mattress to kill that issue once and for all. Big van, room for guests and socialising so I hope we get to see inside this year 😁👍 The one thing I don’t like about our little van is that there is no warm air flow through our cupboards and especially the battery area. We have lithium and it’s amazing but as the temperature drops below freezing keeping the battery warm enough to charge becomes an issue. At some point you will be switching to lithium for sure. If I had a big van like yours I would ensure I could keep the electrics and batteries warm when I needed to. If you have ever seen Foresty Forest channel he always has his electrics sharing the living space. He also has a Ninja Foodie in the van and I would love to have one of those as they are brilliant. I think I would keep the graphics on the van as it would provide excellent stealth. Removal vans travel the entire country and I think most people would think that when they are on a job they sleep in the van. Putting windows in might make that not practical though. I don’t remember removal vans being a target for theft when I was in the job. You would be very easy to spot by your viewers so perhaps take that into consideration as well. Not sure of the legality of keeping the logos either ? It might cause difficulties for the company with them getting phone calls about where you parked ? A door from the cab to the back is going to be a challenge. It would have to be really well weather sealed to avoid water ingress into the van or cab. If it can be done then it would be brilliant to be able to access the cab without having to get out from both a stealth, convenience and security standpoint. Those large rear doors need space to open so it’s not always going to be possible to open them for access to the back when your parked up against other vehicles, walls and trees. It will be interesting to see if you keep them or build a rear wall. A decent insulated side door away from the traffic will be needed for when you park in tight spaces. Thinking of that designing things to give the option to put a second door on the offside would be useful for when you take the van abroad. Give some thought to how you will get into the van if you have hurt yourself. That includes the bed. Janine will be worried about driving it for sure but it’s pretty important that she can because if anything happens to Liam out on a walk it could be a real problem. When the time comes find a wide open space and practice practice practice. Remember it will be far more susceptible to high cross winds than your current van. You will feel daunted for sure but Rome was not built in a day and all problems can be overcome with time and thought. Take your time to think things through. One thing is for sure, this new van project will do no harm at all to your channel and we will certainly be subscribing to Liam and watching the build. Stay safe.

A while ago I saw a box truck conversion on you tube where the owner had put a glazed wall with door a few feet in from the van’s back doors. This created a porch / garage area to put sports equipment and keep the main area of the van cleaner. She had a small deck to sit out on. She was stealthy when the doors were closed, or when she had a nice view she opened the vans back doors and enjoyed the view from inside. I also think she may have had windows in the roof - more natural light, nice sky views and because the van was so tall it didn’t affect the stealthiness very much. I can’t find the video, but if you’re interested I’ll keep searching. Also I’d advise you to think of head height where you’re going to put the bed. If you want to watch TV in bed then you’d need to be able to sit up. If it’s not tall enough to allow that then you’ll need another seating area somewhere else. (I’ve just sold a motorhome because the drop down bed didn’t allow me to sit up in bed) Best of luck with it all. Can’t wait to see it when it’s done.

As im sure you are already aware, living in a van is very different from a weeks holiday. Manufacturers of camper vans/motorhomes try to pack a house into a van because its assumed to only be used a few weekends or a couple of weeks at a time, a bad way to go for a full time vanlifers build. Comfort and Space continues to be my priority in my van. Ive lived in it full time for 3 years so far, making changes along the way and about to make more. very best of luck guys and I cant wait to see the progress.

Driving licence ....I think you need to keep an eye out for the finished weight and how it affects driving licence categories. B licence takes you up to 3.5 tonnes after that you will need C1

I would get rid of the sign writing on the van as it could prompt thieves or nosey people up to no good. I am so excited for You. Can’t wait to see the van build commencing. I personally would leave the cab separate, build a storage cupboard to use as a plinth to extend the bed and you could incorporate a ladder into that also, best of luck with your build cant wait to see the progress.

We were going to do an Adventure Van build ourselves here in Wyoming. But I’m 6’2” tall and I can’t sleep sideways in a van. And I didn’t want the longer van to sleep front to back. So we bought a new Ram 3/4 ton truck and put a slide in truck camper in with queen size bed, bath room with shower and on demand hot water, flush toilet, kitchen with microwave, stove top and fridge, and sofa. Lots of cabinet space. And an AC and propane heater. We needed a 4 wheel drive since we live in the mountains and have lots of snow in winter. I can slide the camper in the truck bed and have a camper. I can slide it out and have my pickup truck. It was a good choice for us. Looking forward to seeing the finished build. 😎👍

Amazing leap!! You may need a small car and a semi permanent park up. The big lorries the others have they cant get into a lot of car parks or under bridges. Nipping to tesco is not just a simple trip in a lorry. Also the coat of fuel restricts their ability to move around as freely so they tend to have semi permanent park ups and plan adventures rather than roam constantly however this does also make it easier to pick up work as you are in one area for specific amounts of time.
