Great videos - both simple enough to understand but also very helpful and full of knowledge and insight. Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this with the Thoth deck. By the way, this has been my favorite deck almost since I first became interested in the Tarot, so your impressions/reactions to the art and imagery created and depicted by Crowley for his deck (on the shoulders of his antecedents, of course), and realized through Lady Harris' brush, really resonated with me. I share your opinions of many of the cards here. They are beautifully realized as well as being packed with symbolism/meaning/information. I think the artistic representations, including the shapes, colors, etc. help to provide the important atmosphere to foster the intuitive part of the nature of divination with the Tarot.

I love how the explanation of the aces is basically the fool of each element!! 💖 as they are within them as such the fool is usually explained to be outside of the major arcana because it is all the fools story and development

So funny how things happen sometimes. I was going through a drawer recently of things I have kept from my teen years and pulled out the large version of this deck that I must have bought when I was in high school. The same day your videos showed up in my list. I think now after so many years I can begin to get my head around it. What I like too and correct me if I'm wrong but much of Thoth can be applied to other decks which adds a layer I hadn't considered before. So interesting!

Thoth goes very deep and many people feel overwhelmed with information and not confident. We don’t need to memorise it really, but let ourselves being carried way in Thoth journey, as you’ll never forget when you see a great movie or book! Such a beautiful deck , the right one!!! I always read intuitively with my other decks so I never really studied the symbolism or astrology. I'm banking on your videos to " hold my hand" right through it. Haha. Plus, I love your style! I believe that knights represent knights in RWS but princess in Thoth are the Kings in RWS. Princes are air - air is logic, thinking, ego - it represents Kings energy much better imo. Fire is passionate, energetic, expresses the "doing" not thinking so therefore represent knights in both system better imo. 😇 what are your thoughts on this?

This makes me really want the Duquette book! It seems so well written in terms of breaking down complex ideas. I have been struggling with only one book to accompany this deck, although I seem to have pretty "accurate" intuitive meanings, in the way of the how I read the symbols seeming to be aligned with what other people have written, it's always nice when you have the same language as a deck straight away.

DuQuette misses a few things, but yes that would be the best book on the deck for most. It is important to build those hermetics upon the prosaic is true.

I love my RWS system, but are so fascinated by the thoth system and love the cards. Ordered the green box deck and the book on your tablet. I'm so glad for these two videos! I read Moonchild, which is basically a celebration of all things sexist and elitist in the occult and it totally turned me off all things Crowley, but I really loved that you talked about the Queens governing the cardinals and holy cow, is this a beautiful deck.

+Luna I can definitely understand why Crowley can have a turn off factor simply by reputation alone, however the small amount of work I've done already have me quite impressed. I'm going to be doing a video on the courts separately so I can go into that further. Not only the Queens but it's the Princesses who in a sense rule the suit as they rule the aces :D It's pretty cool!

+Suzanne Tol Ahh, that does look interesting especially that they have the original pip card imagery superimposed, put it on my list to look at. I have the Haindl and Sun and Moon Tarot that pull from Thoth as well as the Rosetta Tarot app for the book.

They are a lot alike in a lot of areas with I like but gives it a little twist here and there too. Thoth is still the best deck in my mind, but I found myself connecting more with T for things like rituals and other spiritual workings. But I adore the Thoth deck. The insights it brings are just amazing. There is always something new to learn with the Thoth deck.

Just for a bit more insight, from someone who's been around for a LONG time as a Thoth mentor says that Crowley speaks of tarot as "living beings" and elaborates in a vid on his channel. He is a qualified source for info that's been around for many many decades. Some of Crowleys work is difficult and $$ to get a hold of (exception: Book of Thoth) Paulhuges-Barlow (Paul Hughes-Barlow) the video on Tarot as living beings in the book of Thoth is profound & helpful too.

That's Crowley's idea that to treat the cards as living beings.Paul hughes Barlow say's a lot, but doesn't actually say very much. A sarcastic horrid little man.

How are the Pip cards not something you can count with? The Tarot is a basis for more than divination. More than with any other deck, I would lay down the Thoth Tarot in mandalas. The astronomical/astrological orders and the pentagrams with the aces and court cards were my favorite. Currently, I use the Qabalah Tree of Life order more. The cards within cards interconnectiveness and the tenancies concepts were central to the message of Lon Milo DuQuette regarding Tarot; aside from Aleister Crowley as Prophet of the New Age of The Conquering Child stuff. I had wished the pips were in the Age of Aquarius and maybe with 7 planets instead of just 5 planets and 4 decans over into the Age of Aries. It would be possible to render the court cards into a genderless progression. I think the solstice cards should all be Fixed Fire and Fixed Air instead of Earth and Water. The Lion has turned green and The Water Bearer is full of Water. The cross quarters would all be cardinal signs in the order of Fire, Earth, Air, and Water in the Western years.

Which one? If you're talking about the Lon Milo Duquette one, It's seen as a great book in the Thoth community. You do realise the Thoth cards don't mean the same as the Rider Waite-Smith cards right? It's very different, especially the pip cards & the courts.

I found a second-hand deck at a thrift store, didn’t know it was Thoth (no box or book), googled and found out it is the same as your small bordered version. It has 3 magus cards, each different artwork - is this the norm? Do you keep all of them in the deck when working with them?

Some people do use all 3 magi in the deck, as a personal preference for fun, but most folks do not. The 2 extra versions are designs Frieda Harris tried out and rejected. You can try them out for yourself and decide whether they add anything useful to your readings.

Ah, I'll have to watch it back then, but yes, I do read astrological charts so understanding the basic qualities of the planets and combining them with a basic understanding of numerology can go a long way to getting the base meaning in the equation that the Thoth minors uses :)
