The hyperbolic shape you gather is relative to the movement of the ship like if you draw a perpendicular laser on the ship as canvas, the apples themselves keep stationary as they ever were.

Sigh... Oh course you can measure the difference. Gravitational fields decay with distance so gravity is stronger at your feet than head. This can be measured and distinguish from rocket acceleration!! Woops that's actually covered in the video! I typed this assuming it was the usual blind spot lol

@@blahsomethingclever yep, uniform gravitational fields don't seem all too common though

As a planet like Earth rotates, a guy in a box could detect this as a coriolis effect using a pendulum, but a guy in a box accelerating linearly through space wouldn't be able to detect any corolis effect?

Even in a windowless box with right instruments you could tell the difference. In pure empty space objects in the box would clump very slowly to each other but if you come into a large gravitational field you could notice like the object slightly closer to the large object not moving towards all the other objects in the box the way it did before in pure empty space

They would clump equally on earth, as they do and this effect was already used to measure gravity

Correct. But remember that this lecture is following Einstein’s thinking. I do go into tidal forces elsewhere.

You could use a newtons cradle but made of apples xD
