The word “impute” would be a great addition to this message especially in the Greek. The definition has everything to do with thinking, considering, reckoning. Imputing righteousness has everything to do with how God thinks about us.

This is a way of explaining how in genesis 2:5 every plant of the field before it was in earth and every herb of the field before it grew for Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the Earth, and there was no man to the ground, even though in some realm of creation all the plants were created and reproducing. They were not in earth before mean was created. Somehow every plant existed in a realm only seen by God, because He saw it and it was good. and it was that substance of the unseen that God used to make what is seen. Same with the animals later in the chapter.
