Exactly. Lawrence fully INTENDED to get hit here, gaining the extra yards PLUS a 15 yard penalty. He just didn't INTEND to get KNOCKED OUT. Maybe this should happen more, and these pretentious QBs will stop taking advantage of the rules put in place to protect them.

In my opinion, it was a late slide and Azeez was already in the progression for the hit. He led with his forearm, not his helmet. Definitely no malicious intent there. He just popped Lawrence really good. Fine him and call unnecessary roughness. There was absolutely no reason to eject him and he definitely doesn’t deserve a suspension, which I’m sure will be one game. He isn’t a trouble maker. He’s just a very physical linebacker like he’s supposed to be.

Here is perhaps some unconventional wisdom and is anti-PC…there should be no suspensions at all. A fine? OK, sure, simply due to the look of it. This was not a dirty play, but a “bang bang” play, meaning, it was simply in the spontaneous moment of playing a grown man’s game, coming out of the pocket, and running full speed into the teeth of the defense. Trevor (and all modern quarterbacks) need to learn this: Slide feet first in the open field and when it is crowded, and there is a chance you will get hit hard, slide “early”; quit trying to get extra yards. This is more on Trevor, not the defender.

Defenders should not be held responsible for the ball carrier safety. The slide was late . Everyone on the field should be responsible for their own safety. A lot of “late hits” and players being called “dirty players” due to late slides and players “pretending “ to run down field then turn to go out of bounds.
