I was just talking to my friend about this, the game mode is a living paradox. The whole point is to run in get kills and become the hunter for more points, but if you kill the hunter by sitting back and waiting for them to push because they don’t want to explode you get like 20 points. This makes everyone run ranged weapons and nobody is pushing in (the whole point of the game mode). It just doesn’t make sense and I think they should adjust the game mode a little bit.
@Jefstito2 жыл бұрын
I agree. Maybe they should make it so you can only get 5 points for the hunter. The clip near the end where cammys buddy was on a streak and then died proves that this game mode its really flawed. They were winning by 15 points and after that, they were losing. Is ridicoulus

The teams that push everytime have the most success. It's a team mode, not an I mode. I played for quite a few hours yesterday and my team was super aggressive and we had a blast. None of us cared if we died on a streak.

Yeah similar experience here. I start out running something up close, rotating around the map a lot, generally playing like how I like to. Then about halfway through once I’ve been killed by Jade rabbit in the back of the map the fourth or fifth time, I put a scout on too and just stare at a lane.

For me its the break from the sbmm in the only 2 other gamemodes we usually play. Comp and control get sbmm so playing with vastly different skill level friends makes more sense in IB. And on top of that the nature of streaks makes people, who sit in spawn the entire game, die therefore making the games more engaging and brawly. Its goofy but its what I would want control playlist to be swapped out for.

I'm having a lot of fun with this gamemode so far. I got about 6 hours into it, and so far it's been great. I've been primarily playing as a 6-stack with friends/clanmates of varying skill levels and we have been having a blast. I really like the concept of streaking and the incentive to be aggressive, which works in tandem with arc 3.0. It's pretty satisfyingly to go on a high streak and kind of just be like "F it" and go in some times. I will say that there are some aspects that definitely should be tweaked, like the timer. On some maps, 15 seconds isn't enough, especially if there is a spawn flip. I'd say extend the base timer to like 20 seconds, and/or make it so kills grant an accumulative increase in the timer. Like if you get a quick double kill, instead of having each kill fresh the timer back up to 15, make it so that the first kill would bring it up to 15, then the 2nd would bring it to like 20. Kind of like the nezaarc's sin timer, where it increases with every kill and maxes out eventually. The persistent wall hacks are annoying, but in my experience it didn't seem to be too problematic, but I can easily see how rough it can be against a good team that can easily hunt you down. Maybe if they remove the wall hacks and just keep the spark like appearance a player has when they are on a streak, that'd be better. Or maybe it can show up temporarily when that player hits a streak milestone, say every 5 kills.

I dont hate SBMM, I think your points about how its tuning itself over time are super valid. I really think the lack of SBMM let’s this be the mode where we have fun again. I was rocking Cold Denial/Out of Bounds with Harmony and *Chromatic Fire* of all things with great results. the mode itself wasn’t what made it fun, but the loose games where I can try out funny builds with my friends and just shout and have fun. it’s not highly competitive and that’s what I like about it, since I can try my different build ideas without feeling like a detriment to my team/getting instantly mercied. main gripe is definitely that it feels punishing to go on streaks since people will just back up into the back of spawns, and with Dysjunction you can kill a spawn and then not be able to make it all the way to the other side of the map before exploding. other than that just been a really good casual mode to mess around with friends in and I don’t dislike the loot pool like some previous seasons

The Location of a guardian on a streak should be pings every 2 seconds instead of constant. OR Every 5 seconds and with every next kill decreases by 1 second to constant feed once you hit 10 kills. I like this mode. It reminds me so much of Crank from COD Ghost, and I loved that mode. However, I don’t like both wall hacks and seeing the timer because in Ghost, if you’re Crank (or on a 5 streak in Destiny terms), no one knows where you are and can’t see the timer. This wasn’t a huge issue and I kinda don’t understand why Bungie gave players the ability to see those players, who are on a 5 streak, through walls and see the timer. It creates a problem where players are running away from the person who is on a streak, rather than just playing aggressive.

I've loved the SBMM in control, at a high level too. The problem I've had is 6 stacks and people quitting. When you have neither of those things, stuff gets real fun. Been playing control for so long having to carry the entire match almost solo so it's nice to actually have and be against good players. Unfortunately it seems that for people who are sorted into a higher skill bracket, this notion is a minority since the pointless numbers on their profile mean more than having fun competitive matches.
@wiiwaremania2 жыл бұрын
This right here! I enjoy the SBMM in a way to sometimes not be paired with braindead teammates and people who know how to play somewhat. But the main issue is the ragequitting due to teaming up against 4-6 stacks and THAT is the main thing that ruins Control imo. People tend to quit more now than previously which is not a healthy sign.

I do feel like it needs tweaks like giving the entire enemy team wallhacks while you're erupt should be changed to how the wallhacks in gambit work or while you're invading or when you're erupt you should gain wallhacks as well making it a 2 edged sword. I like the idea of it, especially when you approach it more like a VIP mode where it's just as important for the team to protect their VIP as it is for the enemy to focus them down, so it encourages playing aggressive as a whole team whereas if you're left pushing in solo you're just going to get overwhelmed and you can't really back up because of the timer, so in a way it actually makes it way more team focused than the usual Team Deathmatch style mode. I definitely get where you're coming from though that it can feel like you're just getting punished for playing well since all it does is paint a wall hack target on you to make you worth bonus points and also gives you a short timer, and on a large map it's basically an automatic death sentence since you're not going to find the next enemy before your timer runs out. (Maybe they could even adjust the Eruption timer per map?) Though I feel like theoretically you could turn the VIP wallhacks into it's own advantage through some clever teamplay, as since the enemy team will be focused on gunning down the marked person it makes it easier for non-marked teammates to flank and catch the enemy team from the side while they're not paying attention. (Though I know the success of that depends on how much the enemy team tends to tunnel vision or not.)

If they add larger maps, which I’m a big believer that they should, they need to add vehicles back. I think when the gamemode works, which can be seen on maps like anomoly, when the lobby actively tries to play the game rather than kd farming with pulses and scouts from another map, the game mode does achieve its goal and can be fun, its just when the blanently flawed mechanics are abused (which is simply playing to win) when the game really takes a dragging turn. I think most of the reason why ppl including myself enjoy the game mode is because of sbmm, games in IB feel WAAAY better on average than control, letting ppl actually enjoy their "relax game session' rather than signing up for a tourny game every time, mixed with the game mode in its ideal state, when it works, its really works, and when it doesn't it just feels like normal control games anyways, with the knowledge that if the other team erupts, they finally have to leave their spawn and come play too (of course on paper)

The bigger age old question is really slammed down even harder after this IB mode came into being, why in the hell is there no permanent Clash playlist? I say this as a diligent goody goody boyscout teamplayer of a flag capper who had an obscene amount of caps when Bungie did the "yourIronBannermemories" post awhile back and I'd bet money that I can outcap and retain a respectable amount of defeats/involvement than a lot of people playing the game, 99.9% of players in this game don't give a damn about objectives and clearly there is just a desire to slug out without having to worry about it. Yes I agree with you Eruption feels goofy with a lot of cheap undeserved opportunities to wipe people, and how the comeback mechanics can just eat away at you or your team absolutely popping off to claw stuff back and all that but I think deep down this whole thing just spells out that Clash needs to be more permanent.
@MrJakeasaur982 жыл бұрын
I really like the idea of this game mode, but I absolutely agree with your take. In the games I've played (in the freelance queue), I've found that most people will sit far back with a DMT or Jade Rabbit or similar, making it difficult to maintain a streak or avoid giving the other team the catch-up mechanic. I'll find that I outplay people up close, get primed, and then have to find a way to close the gap in my stormtrance without getting simultaneously shot by everyone on their team sat at the far corner of the map. The gamemode appears to want to encourage you to run around being aggressive with SMGs and the likes, but it heavily favours passive plays and making use of long range choke-holds. It seems against the spirit of the mode intended by Bungie. Maybe I just need to adjust to that reality but at that point I'd rather have IB control back.

Instead of streaks causing you to die after fifteen seconds… it could start a 15 second point multiplier… however… if you die before the timer is up, any of the kills *you* got won’t count towards the score. Eruption Timer: Default Buff + 2x multiplier. 10 streak for 3x multiplier for any kills from then on. When the timer hits zero, all points you accumulate will be added to the scoreboard. This provides incentive to defend your teammates, but also to go on streaks so you can get those extra points.

Cammy you alone in this. This new mode is fun as hell. Feel rewarding to get kills and be “good”.

Do you think that being on a streak could be a little more manageable if the wall hacks were more like one-eyed mask? If the enemy has line of sight on you it shows them your timer and you glow. But if they don't then they don't see anything except for maybe a little text in the bottom left that says so and so is on a streak.

I think it’s should be more like foetracer, like you don’t get marked until an opponent tags you or something, not show you as a “come kill me” beacon soon as you erupt

Not to mention it works against the banner original trait Trait takes you off the radar after a kill But then when you are on a streak you get wall hacked

Wow another mode I don't like, like how hard is it to make this a Crucible Labs mode and make Zone Control the IB mode this season

Oh boy do I have some thoughts on this gamemode, and I don't have a platform so I'll post them here. This is all anecdotal from my experience playing the last few days, almost exclusively in the Freelance Playlist. First, I am an above average player, but nothing special. My favourite way to play PvP is with Fighting Lion in Control, I love using all different types of guns and I have never gone Flawless. I usually sit pretty comfortably at about a 1.4KD, and a 1.7-1.8KDA. First, I'll address some of the points that Cammy brought up. While I agree that technically, this is a 'casual' gamemode in the sense that it is not ultra competitive and there are strong comeback mechanics, I have to say that everyone in my lobbies is sweating their tits off. There is almost no variety in loadouts, and in any game, 3/4 of the lobby is using either Jade Rabbit or NTTE and laning from the back of the map, which seems to be the trend in the lower-skill lobbies I currently inhabit, so it doesn't feel like a casual party experience at all. My win % has absolutely tanked, from about 49% down to less than 30%, which feels awful. I often find myself feeling absolutely helpless against teams, but have yet to have a Freelance game go to Mercy. Most of my games go to time, rather than score. I imagine that Bungie will notice if this becomes a trend and tweak the score limit, so this is likely only a temporary issue. A large number of games in the Freelance playlist have failed to fill, and I have had a number of 4v4 games. I typically don't mind these, but they tend to fill unevenly, and I will often finish those games 5v4 due to people leaving. Not an issue with Eruption, but annoying nonetheless, particularly when you would have been likely to win a 4v4, but lose due to the other team getting an extra body. My cynical brain is telling me that this gamemode is popular with content creators because it is easy to get clips from due to the uptime on ability spam, but I don't have any proof of that so it's a moot point. Overall, this is the least fun I have ever had playing this game period, and if my lizard brain wasn't completely obsessed with the idea of gilding my Iron Lord title I would not be playing at all, loot be damned.

The thing I’ve noticed is this reminds me sooo much of pre beyond light pvp with the ability and super cooldowns and the way people are playing.

Yeah... Reminds me of cerridius's 100 defeat game. So many supers...

Hopefully all of this is leading to Bungie adding the rotator QP back as the casual mode and adding an actual comp mode. Seems like they are testing and gathering a lot of data from these so fingers crossed.

one of the biggest pros: You have the Freelancer-option! I would have way more fun in Quickplay, if i would have the freelance option.

opinions may differ here, i just dont think destiny is the game that needs "competitive play". Too much cheese, bad servers, weird connections. Thats why i like the mode because you can just turn your brain off and have fun. As unrealistic as this sounds, if everybody does it, we all have a good time. And then it just comes down to how good can you work with your ammo, weapons, abilities, the randomness. If Destiny needs skillbased matchmaking i would rather see it in gamemodes that are actually called competitive like trials or the survival. I have never seen iron banner as competitive.
@WGG-012 жыл бұрын
My only problem is like sure you can turn your brain off but for some people using their brain is the only reason they like crucible. I personally love the person to person engagements and having to play an objective of some kind cause destiny boils down to some really boring well mindless stuff when you take that away. Cause honestly this gamemode is essentially just mayhem but punishes people for not using the meta, like I don't see how that is supposed to be fun, I enjoy grinding mayhem cause sure everyone is using supers but at least every game isn't onesided. I just wish Bungie would get dedicated servers for the game instead of this weird hybrid peer to peer half dedicated thing that just sucks on both ends.

I was really feeling like I was crazy or missing something with how much I abhor this gamemode. Just happy someone whos actually good at this game is having similar thoughts.

Re: Eruption "I hate this game mode". Same. It doesn't help with terribad lobby balancing (which is a problem in SBMM Control as well). Eruption also rewards camping and teamshooting, which ensures my teammates will hug my butt, especially in small maps, and I keep running into teammates, getting walled in by my own teammates (and getting us all killed by one well-timed 'nade). The timer should not penalize people for getting 5+ kills, it should be like the movie Speed: if you stop moving or start camping, a timer goes on and if you don't keep moving, you explode. That would prevent camping and promote aggressive play (and not constantly teamshooting/camping out with your team), but wouldn't penalize good players for running around the map getting kills. Also, why does Bungie hate Clash? Just give me 6v6 Clash with SBMM _and proper lobby balancing_ on the permanent playlist and I will shut up forever about other game types I will never have to play again.

Personally I just want to see control come back with supers disabled... Just like that boom, more competitive and less snowballing. I don't hate this mode as much as you do, but I do find the super spam a little obnoxious...
@JG-gl3hb2 жыл бұрын
This exactly, when you're trying to play the game and you're stuck with sandbag teammates who are getting farmed, anyone who CAN kill someone is getting supered at every turn. It's part of the reason that I really don't much care for Mayhem either, too many supers and grenades constantly being flung everywhere and practically no gunfights.
@Giantspaz2 жыл бұрын
It's fun but also really annoying; the timer is to short especially larger maps. It should stall while you're in combat, I think that would be a good change and the wall hacks should work like the spark runner in rift where you get spotted. I think that would give going on a streak alot more bearable and a nice voiceline from Saladin to tell me I'm surging too.
@Jistafford2 жыл бұрын
We need more modes like this. It's not perfect in it's current state but seeing this and rift back to back makes me at least a little hopeful that Bungie is actually trying to improve crucible. Keep adding modes like this, add more maps either new or improved retired ones, and make a better more engaging ranked system and I think we've got it made. At the very least I wish they'd make a forge mode so the community can try making something.
@karstenonarheim63432 жыл бұрын
So are points awarded for kills and assists instead of just for kills (like it is in normal modes)? This would explain why some shutdowns are worth like 4-5 points while others are worth like 20. In this case, I would think that THAT is the problem
@Saint-14s-Shadow2 жыл бұрын
I'd 100% prefer this than another season of Rift. I haven't played a ton of Control so I don't have the full picture with my personal SBMM but the time I do have it's a night and day difference. Like Cross said, *"It is BALLS sweaty."* I was kind of shocked because Iron Banner was always unbearably sweaty for my friends and I, it was like Control and IB got swapped in terms of their sweatiness. I love it, I live for pure chaos and dummy shit. Something about this mode makes my caveman brain go "ooga booga me like."

Totally agree about the timer not being long enough and the wallhack after only a 5 streak is frustrating. Other than that its been a nice break from the 6v6 comp iv been playing. Mans been sweating

One thing that definitely could change is assist counting as kills. You should have to go out and get your own kills rather than banking on your team to clean up the people you damage.

The comeback score the enemy team gets should ramp up dependent on the streak. 5 streak - 5 points, 10 streak - 10 points. Eruption timer should be 20 sec or get rid of long range maps in rotation. I enjoy it tho, it’s wacky fun, the issue is this should be qp and the state of control rn should be ib, bungies got it twisted.
@marklepore54152 жыл бұрын
For me, I like the game mode and it is a respite from SBMM in control (which should be more of a social playlist imo). I’ve been enjoying IB so far this season and keeps me in the playlist until trials rolls back around where I want to do more “sweaty” gameplay.
