14:40 - 15:04 Being bi myself, I feel this on a spiritual level. I get super annoyed when people believe that bisexual people have to be in a same sex relationship to be considered "valid" part of the LGBT community, especially irl. Bisexuality just means that you love two or more genders or love all kinds of genders, but have a slight preference for one gender. That's it. Bi people in a straight relationship are still LGBT, because our sexuality doesn't evaporate when that happens. I don't think that's what Leigh intended at all, like you said, I think she just shipped them because she liked the couple. At the same time, it's still rather annoying to see people getting worked up over bi characters in straight relationships, because that character still LGBT and bi rep even if they are in a straight relationship.

I do get where you're coming from with Nikolai and Zoya - I do agree that not everyone in YA needs to be paired off - but I must admit they really worked for me. For me they felt like a gender-reversed version of the princess and the bodyguard trope, which is why I think I liked them so much. Ugh I loved Evelyn and Celia so much. I'm still not over them.

The SHADE on the romances you didn't like. Ah. Just what I wanted on this cold evening! And your happy descriptions of what you liked about your favorite couples had my library holds list growing! Also, have you heard of serpent and dove? It's hate to love romance in a French inspired world. She's a witch, he's a witch killer. You might see how their relationship wouldn't work. I was also into it for the religion aspects, but I know that tends to upset some people on how it was handled. They weren't my favorite for a few reasons (Their banter was cute but I was offput by her relentless teasing of his religion). based on your ravings here, I think you'd probably go for it.

My favorite couple is between Iseult & Aeduan and Pynch... I love them both for so many different reasons. My least favorite is Mia & Ashlinn from Darkdawn. The amount of hate I have for their relationship is insane. I really don’t know how Jay Kristoff made me hate their relationship so much when he was trying so hard to get me to like them.

I read the Rain Wilds Chronicles this last year and there is a more mature couple who develop a relationship over the course of the books and it was just the sweetest most tender romance (there are other relationships, but this was just lovely).

And every couple in Kingsbane, yes even Rielle and Corien... especially Rielle and Corien, I regret nothing! PS: I think you would enjoy all of this books.

These are judged purely based on the books mentioned, rather than any previous appearances. From least favourite to favourite: *Peter and his love interest from Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch* I remember literally nothing about them so they've got to be the worst. *Jaime and Cersei from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin* This is just toxic. *Caisson and Solace from Bedlam by Derek Landy* We don't really see enough of them together to care about their relationship. Caisson is a cool character though, so that's why they're higher up. *Nicholas and Seiji from Fence Vol. 1 by C. S. Pacat* There's not really anything to get invested in here, but the characters are cool I guess? *Prince Robot IV and his Wife from Saga Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples* Prince Robot is a complete bastard, and his wife is such a nonentity she hasn't been given a name yet. But their interactions with each other are cute. *Klara and Barr from Saga Vol. 2 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples* They're separated for the whole book, so you don't really get to see any chemistry between them. Plus I don't care about Barr as a character. *Asha and Qarl from A Dance with Dragons by George R. R. Martin* They're kind of fun? But Qarl barely matters. *Asriel and Marisa from Northern Lights by Philip Pullman* Pullman doesn't build any chemistry between them. Their interest in each other makes total sense, but you can't feel their bond. *Simon and Baz from Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell* If I were talking about Carry On, these two would be near the top of my list. But in Wayward Son, while they had cute moments, their relationship was incredibly toxic, bordering on abusive. *Ben and Arthur from What if it's Us? by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera* All that build up for absolutely no payoff. This book was so forgettable in general. *The Will and Gwendolyn from Saga Vol. 3 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples* They had no chemistry and I hate Gwendolyn. *Evie and Jericho from The Diviners by Libba Bray* They had no chemistry. It feels like their relationship jumped from "just starting to tolerate each other" to "desiring each other" instantly with no build up. *Emma and Julian from Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare* Their relationship is boring. At least Emma is an interesting character individually. *Sam and Gilly from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin* They were fine in A Storm of Swords, but in a Feast for Crows, Gilly just annoyed me because she had basically no dialogue, and the sex scene was super awkward. *The Will and The Stalk from Saga Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples* I liked their snarky bickering, but I still don't care about them. *Brysen and Jowyn from Black Wings Beating by Alex London* They had absolutely no chemistry. But I loved Brysen as a character, and Jowyn was kind of interesting? *Brysen and Dymian from Black Wings Beating by Alex London* Yeah, I liked this more. I know you're not supposed to ship it, since Dymian is a garbage human being, and doesn't respect Brysen at all. But they had more cute moments, and more chemistry than Brysen and Jowyn. *Jack and Rosemary from Through Blood, Through Fire by Cassandra Clare and Robin Wasserman* They were fun to learn about, and they were cute with each other. *Valkyrie and Militsa from Bedlam by Derek Landy* They're cute and Militsa is a supportive girlfriend, but Val takes advantage of her goodwill, and we don't get to see much of their relationship. *Jason and Piper from The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan* It's just some prime angst and feels. *Tenn and Tomás from Runebinder by Alex R. Kahler* Okay, they're very problematic. But the way Tomás speaks to him and envisions their relationship very much appeals to my kinky side. *Tenn and Jarrett from Runebinder by Alex R. Kahler* Their relationship is very wholesome and nice. They aren't higher because we don't know too much about Jarrett's life before he and Tenn met again, and it's been said that he has secrets. *Helen and Aline from Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare* Again they just have a super wholesome relationship. And Aline will not stand for anyone hurting her wife, even her wife's siblings. Also they're super clever and scheming together. *Ronan and Adam from Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater* If we were talking about them in The Raven Cycle, they'd be near the top of this list, but in this book we don't see enough of Adam to put them too high. *Zachary and Dorian from The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern* I loved their relationship when they had one, but how it started was super instalove-y and I can't get past that. *Klara and Oswald from Saga Vol. 3 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples* These two were just adorable. With their snarky old person wisdom and scheming. They were precious. *Jem and Tessa from Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen -Johnson, Kelly Link and Robin Wasserman* Honestly cuter in this book than they ever were in The Infernal Devices. They're just both such pure and wholesome people that you can't help but find them adorable. *Jon and Ygritte from A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin* I loved their snarky back and forth, and of course the feels. *Renly and Loras from A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin* They're just cute. They're both exceptionally flawed, but still likable characters and their love for each other is so strong, and so obvious. *Ned and Catelyn from A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin* Honestly the only completely healthy and equal couple in the series. It's nice to see an older couple who are happily married, and deeply in love, even though their marriage was entirely political. They're just sweet. *Upsher and Doff from Saga Vol. 3 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples* I loved these two. They were really cute. But mostly I think I liked their function in the story. Their perspective was the most interesting in the volume. *Jordan and Declan from Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater* I have absolutely no idea how I became so invested in them so quickly, but I did. Their banter and chemistry is just great. *Memphis and Theta from The Diviners by Libba Bray* Also just a matter of great chemistry. Their interactions are really cute, and I love how they find one another so interesting. *Marko and Alana from Saga Vol. 1-3 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples* They're just a fantastically written couple. They're so loving with each other, but they also have the witty banter and the snark that I need, and their relationship is constantly growing and evolving. It's great. *Kit and Ty from Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare* Ah, these two are just precious babies. They're so frustrating, Kit's damage and Ty's single-minded determination prevent them from communicating properly, but you can just feel the love they have for each other, and the loneliness when they're apart. Depending on how their story wraps up, they have the potential to overtake Magnus and Alec as my favourite Shadowhunter Chronicles ship. *Mark, Kieran and Cristina from Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare* What a wonderful trio. The love and admiration they all have for each other is so cute, and the way they care for each other is adorable too. I think their romantic arc is the best Cassandra Clare has ever written, since the development is so clear and precise. *Achilles and Patroclus from The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller* This book destroyed me, and these boys are why. They were so tender and precious with each other and the whole book was adorable enough that it almost overwhelmed the dread of the inevitable ending. *Magnus and Alec from The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu* No sorry, this is the best romantic arc Cassandra Clare has written. They were adorable in this book, but it still addressed their problems from that time in a satisfying way. It was just cute to see them finding their feet in the early stages of their relationship. *Danny and Colton from Firestarter by Tara Sim* God what can I even say about these two. First of all they're my favourite book couple of all time. They're also both some of my favourite characters of all time. They're incredibly strong characters individually, but together they're perfect. And they don't put their relationship ahead of the safety of the world, which I appreciate. They're just super cute and wonderful and they're the best. Damn 2019 was not a good year for ships for me. The ones I actually care about start at Jason and Piper. If I added webcomics I might've had a few more favourites, but this comment is getting long enough.

Sarai & Lazlo! - they were also a least favorite of mine but is it due to a direct comparison of Akiva & Karou or all of the insta-love factors??? the world building is great and I think character wise Lazlo (who is only learned through the written word) has a highly romanticized view of courtship, love, and relationships. Maybe this was one of the driving factors to the fast progression of their relationship? they were also pretty predictable and even though they have obstacles...but Karou & Akina --> their struggle was R E A L! i would have liked to see more of the romantic development of Thyon Nero. Maybe more of a sibling development with Mina. This series should have been a trilogy. I also would have enjoyed less of a everyone-gets-a-happy-ending

I actually enjoyed Nikolai and Zoya but would have been just fine if they remained single. I didn’t like Nina’s romance at all. It felt forced. I really thought her plot could’ve been made in to a Nina novella, but I could talk about how disappointing KOS was for hours. Olive and Ethan are perfection, I adore them so much.

Oh man, I really disliked A Shadow Bright & Burning so not continuing with the series. Had my GoodReads app open and was adding other things to it though. I have Empire Of Sand and I'm excited to get into that and The Girl In The Tower is the other one that most intrigues me so definitely added to the "want to read" list. Jude & Cardan, yup... Oh man I 100% agree about Molly and Fitz, his relationship with literally every other character has more depth. They're not good for each other and he kinda idolizes her past self and their common past to the point that he's blind to the reality. I won't say more because I can't remember what happened in this book and what happened in the last, but yeah, bummer

Karine sometimes I think for most of the series, Fitz’s entire viewpoint stems from what he does in Assassin’s Quest. He idolises Molly because he got rid of all the bad shit and left himself half a human. Even when he idolises her I can’t bloody stand her, 😂

Have you read anything by Ilona Andrews? or TJ Klune? Great authors with fantastic couple/relationships. Not only the romantic couples, but the familial and friendships are awesome.

@@ThoughtsOnTomes If you can definitely try them out. Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series is awesome. The first book isn't their best and they will openly admit it; but the series just gets better. They mostly write Sci-Fi/Urban Fantasy. TJ Klune is fantastic and writes in just about every genre. His is all MM. His Bear Otter and the Kid series is an emotional roller coaster (made me laugh like a loon and sob like my life was ending) Murmuration is a TRIP.

One positive about Starsight is that Spensa’s bf is barely in it and the romance is kinda not going on for that book so... (I also thought quality-wise the second was better anyways)

I don't think anyone really likes Fitz and Molly so I knew when I clicked the video that you would name them 😂 When I read the books in high school I hated Molly, in my more recent readthroughs I can understand her POV a little more but... Still don't like her at all in Royal Assassin.

I feel hurt that you don't like skyward ... he's my favourite author... at least one of them! BUT if you're after the relationships this book is not it! This book really isn't about the romance that wasn't really there strongly at all.

he's one of my favorite author as well, I just didn't like this book much. And I didn't read it for the romance, which is why when one was in there I was disappointed.
