I've only done one run-through of this game so far, but it was fantastic. I was once a wizard-king in ancient eastern Europe, eventually becoming a power broker in Medieval Italy. But things went south after that, until I eventually ended up dying, broken, mad, and homeless, on a park bench in LA sometime in the 1970s.

I know this will be an unpopular take, but this doesn't seem so much like a "game" in the traditional sense of the word to me, but more like a mystical, introspective, imaginative and spiritual experience being sought. Personally, I'd rather play rpgs with friends and real people, but to each his own. Maybe it's just the way this review is being presented, lol. Also, the guy's website is very toxic. Calls out people he supposedly hates to not buy his stuff on the grounds that they are hateful. lol. I'm not american or into politics, but this guy seems broken. Telling people he doesn't know that they are bad if they do the very thing that he is doing. Very weird.

I've done several game playthroughs of it, my first character was a Pirate who was close friends with Black Beard and when he was turned into a vampire he fed off the blood of his wife and infant son and fled England to live in America amongst the native American tribes before returning back to England and black mailing a butler who was having an affair and when the butler found out my character was a vampire, he was killed by my character and he went on a violent feeding spree and was named jack the ripper by the city of London before fleeing to France where he aided 2 guys in helping them into Germany where he ended up caught in the middle of the first world war and years later he ended up serving in the Dutch navy during world war 2 where him and his crew we're captured by the Japanese and escaped them and helped them escape by sacrificing himself fighting the Japanese where he eventually was killed by the sun.

"Funny" thing, I was off this week too. In the hospital after a collapsed lung. I'm fine now, and glad to be back. I'm glad you mentioned Googling historical information... I have *long* been debating picking this up but always hesitated because I didn't think I had the appropriate knowledge to create a believable backstory. Just in time to back the sequel - So You Met A Thousand Year Old Vampire One of the things I used TYOV for is to build up a fantasy setting using the vampire as a time stamp in the process. Some of the things you can come up with will work greatly with building a robust vampire and a fantasy world at the same time. Also: one thing that helped me greatly was using the positive numbers rolled as the years that passed. Any zeroes or negatives happened in the same year to really make things interesting (and also compress the time a little).

If you want to go the history route, definitely follow Maria's advice and start far in the past. My first vampire survived about 800 years starting around 1000 CE. You will probably veer off from historical accuracy anyway. Sometimes you vampire becomes quite powerful and influential. Alternatively, you could play in a fictional universe like your favourite fantasy world - Forgotten Realms, Middle Earth. Might be fun. If you do get into our future you at least won't have to worry about being historically accurate. Why not a vampire on a starship or a cyberpunk vampire?
