Thousands attend concert organised by Colombia’s government in support of Palestinians

Thousands of Colombians attended a free concert in support of Palestinians on Friday. The concert, dubbed Concert of Hope, was organised by the Colombian government. A large Palestinian flag with text saying “stop genocide” covered Bogota’s Congress building, as artists from all over Latin America performed on stage.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who invited artists to perform at the concert back in January, has been a staunch critic of Israel’s war on Gaza. Days after 7 October, he described the “complete siege” of Gaza announced by Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant as “Nazism”, and in May this year he announced Colombia would cut diplomatic ties with Israel.
