My wife and my mammaw have a shop that does flowers for gravesites and its a blessing because when we deliver the grave blankets and flowers to the cemetery we pray for the Souls in Purgatory. Some of the Cemeteries we deliver to are Ether Catholic and non Catholic. No matter what always pray for the Souls. They will thank us, even if it’s brutally cold outside it can be offered as a penance and can be used to offer for the souls. Never lose the Hope in these Souls. If I feel uneasy I try to imagine the Souls departing from Purgatory into Heaven as a way to give myself more perseverance to continue to pray for the Souls in Purgatory. God Bless take care ❤️

Praying for souls iin purgatory is my constant habit. My father dies when I was 8 yrs and my mother taught me to pray for his soul and all the souls in purgatory. I was born into a Catholic family and thank God for that. My friend from 2nd grade in Catholic school taught me about St Gertrude. When we liived near each other we went to the cemetery where our parents were buried and brought flowers and prayed St Gertrude's prayer over seemingly abandoned graves for those souls. At those times we learned that our parents were actually buried right near each other. My children have since moved me out of state to be near them because of my poor health and my age (82). This video, which I enjo following, has inspired me to search cemeteries to go and pray for the souls there and bring flowers from my own garden. Thank you for this video.

After a few decades as a Baptist, I came back to the church, and knew so little. Every day and blown away by the seemingly endless grace is and treasures flowing from the treasury of our Catholic faith. There is a Presbyterian cemetery a few minutes from me . Very few crosses on graves. Although it is not abandoned, it is a very old and large cemetery. I will walk those paths with my rosary for those souls. The realization that not a single moment of your day or suffering ever needs to be wasted, but could be very powerful for your own soul, the souls around you and us, and for the holy souls is making my heart burst with joy! I'm catholic and my best friend was protestants (Baptist). She was like a sister and closest friend of mine. Its been almost 3 years of her death. She was a good person and I truly know She was someone who has good inside but always have skeptical with our catholic beliefs. I was heartbroken when she died so everyday I pray for her whether she has gotten into heaven or not. I always wish she is in good place with God and angels.

I have masses said all the time and I asked if I could have them said for Non-Catholic Christians. YES was the answer. Have a Mass said for your friend or even more than one. I also pray a few rosaries daily. One if for my intention, whether it’s for one of my loved ones who are alive or could be in purgatory. The next is for Conversion of sinners generally/ peace on earth. Today’s was for President Trump his family, his entire Cabinet, and 🇺🇸. Don'' t say like a Protestant like : " she is with God and Angels". You should pray for her soul. Protestants say that they go to Heaven after death. This is not a truth and they go to Purgatory like other people . And they need our help because they cannot count on help from other Protestants because they cannot believe in Purgatory.

5 year old catholic in a 55 year old body here :) I've had a devotion to the souls since before I knew I was Catholic! I take my free time to go to cemeteries to pray for them. I do all sorts of things, from incense, holy water, blessed salt, and candles, but I don't have a real "routine," if you will. I absolutely love spending time with them! I have a "soul sister" who just came back into the church after 50 years, and we go together to the most remote cemeteries. What do you guys do? How do you honor the souls at cemeteries? I used to pray at this tiny cemetery hidden in plain sight in the middle of a city. I could pray at the old iron gate and look in to the centuries old grave stones that had most of the names and dates so worn off that each plot was an unknown except for a few children who had died shortly after birth or of illness. After two years, the city cleaned the tiny space, manicured it, and installed brand new engraved marble headstones. I always wondered why the city suddenly did that. Thank you for explaining the grace behind this. I have more work to do now. I can’t wait to find another cemetery and begin praying.

I can't help thinking of how Blessed we are to be Catholic and to partake in the prayers for souls that did not have the Grace to love God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and Holy Mary Mother of God like we did. The protestant cemeteries too no doubt need our help.. They are sometimes hard to access as locked up and obviously they dont believe in purgatory so wise to do discreetly. Is it just as efficious to eg - stand outside the wall, gate and pray or does one need to be physically within. Thank you

@jenniferboht961 I don't see how prayer is disrespectful at all. So if a protestant in heaven is somehow aware of someone praying for them, even if it's misguided, how would that be disrespectful? Don't you think the person would be touched that someone remembered them and cared enough to pray for them? Oh, and you can rip up pictures of saints if you like. But I don't see how that's remotely the same thing. One shows disrespect to a person and the other shows care (although maybe, perhaps, misguided). There are illusions to purgatory in the Bible. The one that comes to my mind is when Jesus talks about souls being tested by fire, or something like that. I'll look it up.

There is a Christ Church Episcopal Church yard close to where I live. The grave yard sits on the side of a hill next to a busy road without easy access to pedestrians. I therefore do not pass there on foot. I do, however, and have for several years, prayed for the souls interred there as I drive past. Sometimes, I am returning from 3:00am Adoration when I say these prayers for the Holy Souls in this cemetery. I pray that my “drive by” prayers will be just as effective for these souls as if I had walked in the graveyard myself. Many of the stones seem to have been there for a very long time, as I notice that the inscriptions are pretty blurred and unreadable, but perhaps if I stood in the graveyard, I could better read the inscriptions.

When you pray for the souls in purgatory you're helping them get to heaven and they can help us while we're still here though they can't help themselves plus when they are in heaven they are so grateful for your prayers that they'll help you from heaven if you end up in purgatory.

Sometimes such cemeteries may need some cleaning too: beer/wine/vodka bottles that need to be removed, even dogs poop (inside or near the cemetery). Such things can be accomplished with minimal means and could be a beautiful sacrifice for the souls in purgatory.

I pray for the holy souls all the time and have masses which I try to attend said for the newly deceased in my Parish. But I will have no family to pray for me😢 All my siblings (5) left the Catholic church and my husband is not Catholic and HATES all denominations. No one in my family believes in purgatory. Im 70yo and I fear no one will pray for me when I die.

The Church prays for all souls in purgatory. You can also ask your family (personally or in your will) to order Gregorian masses for you and leave them the appropriate amount of money. Even if they do not attend the Mass, the priest and other people will be at that Mass.

Does the cemetery must be a Catholic cemetery or a Catholic section that is abandoned? Is there not a Dogma that states: "Outside the Catholic Church there is no Salvation." And please correct me if I am wrong in saying only Catholic are in Purgatory. I know Catholic Dogmas can not be change.

Any soul (Catholic or not) that dies in the state of grace, can go to Purgatory to atone. Even if our Christian brothers do not know about Purgatory, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

That is what many Protestants believe, but it is not the truth. Anyone who dies in the state of Grace, and is saved but who has not completely made atonement for the temporal punishment due to their sins can and does go to purgatory. That includes literally millions upon millions of Protestants!!

Not True. There's no "waiting" for any souls. As soon as the body dies, the soul leaves the host. Then it's off through the Universe to get to hell. Everybody must stop in hell. For to get to Heaven you must go through hell first to get there. That's clearly stated in the bible.
