the contrast between the location of the roundtable of the actors and directors and that of the writers is striking...

Love these roundtables. I think it would be great to have a writer-director roundtable. There’s a different perspective from people who go from word one to yelling action on set

so the final scene in past lives when she walks right to left then go back is actually a metaphor of travelling past time? that's so fascinating.

Why does it feel like the production value, editing and overall interview quality of this roundtable seem less than previous years? While Variety absolutely knocked it out of the park with their actor on actors series which seemed to perfectly pair their actors this year.

I've been thinking this for the past year or so. It's the sound for me. I think they individually mic them where maybe they didn't used to, so it ends up sounding weird when they all make noise together like laughing or talking over each other. They also don't seem to adapt well when one person is quiet and another is loud, or the same person's volume changes, so I'm sitting here constantly turning my volume up and down! It's honestly infuriating and is enough to genuinely put me off watching them!!

Finally nice to a roundatble with non director writers who are often left behind during a film's promo.

I’m rooting so hard for Tony McNamara to win the Oscar for Poor Things!! He has such a delightfully wicked sense of humour and his script for Poor Things is rich on so many levels. It’s like a love letter to being alive, which I think is safe to say we could all do with having a reminder of nowadays! Plus, it would really make up for that The Favourite snub!

The movie drifts so far away from the novel, though. There are so many elements that have been left out that would not qualify it to receive best adapted screenplay.

I wish the whole interview was like the last 8 minutes. I like it most when we can hear their processes, see their personalities, and watch them engage with each other. It would be nice to have a little less time on the work/film itself b/c I feel like the films, industry reviews, interviews, etc, cover a lot of those questions anyhow.

honestly hated this roundtable, not because of the writers, but the way it was edited. felt like they left out all of the conversation and just edited it to show each writer’s response. wish we could’ve seen the writers interact with each other more
