My issue with Thragtusk is that he was printed to fight combo/control and ended up being used in a combo/control manner himself. That speaks of a failure of design on some level.

But he enters and gives 5 life. I was fairly new at the time but I had a idea why baneslayer was used a lot just before I started playing. But this card is probably my favourite with Jace being second

The real reason people hate thragtusk isnt actually thragtusk, it was restoration angel flickering thragtusk. The easiest way to fix thragtusk from being abused is to say 'if an opponent would remove thragtusk from the battlefield, put a 3/3 beast token into play'- or something along those lines. Gaining 5 life is nice, but the free 3/3 after it leaves is what put it over the edge.

One of the best comebacks I’ve ever seen was someone about to die, 0 cards in hand. Draws a Thragtusk and casts, gain 5 life. Next turn draws a Disciple of Bolas and casts. Plays the 2/1 Disciple of Bolas, sacrifices the Thragtusk, puts a 3/3 boar into play, gains another 5 life then drew 5 cards.

The whole "nostalgia" thing is so true. I remember I started playing Magic on the tail-end of M14, going into what would be my first and soon-to-be favorite block so far in Magic career: Theros. I started out playing Standard like most players do, and I hated Mono-Black Devotion. Now fast-forward to the present-day and I can't help but look back and admire how good of a deck that was, even if it kicked my ass!

Man, I came back to Magic around the same time. Theros was amazing. I loves Ajani, I loved the lore. I loved the downfall of Elspeth. It evoked emotions, it was fun to play. It blasted me in to Bew Town. I knew significantly less about rules, and how to play, in comparison to now. But it was a blast. it was interesting. Siege Rhino was actually supposed to be an anti Lilliana of the Veil card, it had put into play if pitched effect. They took Lili out of M15, so instead tailored it to an uncommon called First Response, which they had depowered before M15 came out, but were still concerned about it. So he was more of an anti token card in his second form. Here is the article from Maro. magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/latest-developments/pillar-never-was-2015-04-03
