My blades on snips are adjusted in a way that I don't need to put any pressure from sides on it and it cuts like butter.

Look on the bright side now you know how to use a dull pair and make it cut for you.

Curious to what brand your snips are? Most of mine require slight inward pressure while gripping them, the only ones that don't are bolted in the middle but I wouldnt call them "snips" anymore.
