I don't know if anyone caught this, but to rewind the bobbin you have to put the thread spool on the bottom spool pin under the bobbin winder through the bobbin tensioner next to it and straight up to the bobbin.
@dionnepray9821

As long as you start the thread from that upper guide down to the thread guide for the bobbin winder and straight up. That way you can use any size spool of thread to fill a bobbin.

Good video, but the spool pin and tension stud for winding a bobbin are at the front of the machine bed, on the right, under the stitch length lever. If you wind a bobbin on any machine without going through the tension stud, you will get a slack, loopy bobbin that can cause stitching problems.

Hi, Dionne, thank you so much for these videos - I recently got a Kingston that looks identical to this one. I have cleaned and polished everything, got the motor rewired. I was finally ready to do the test run today and lo and behold, my check spring is missing the last two bendy parts that the thread hooks through! I came back to your video here to see if you could offer me some guidance as to what check spring I need exactly, and if you know where I might find it. I was thrilled to find your videos! Jonee

Hi Jonee, Actually I found this spring on ebay. It is exactly like mine. www.ebay.com/itm/291319071817. Believe it or not this is the original check spring. It really is like a standard check spring that you would install in a mirror direction from any other machine so that the loop is at 3 o'clock instead of 9 o'clock. Then I would use needle nose pliers to bend the hook part into a rectangle shape so the thread will stay in the loop and not pop out. Does that make sense? Also I have another video on this machine. Let me know if this helps. You can also find videos on how to assemble and disassemble the Singer 15 series upper tension assembly.

@@dionnepray9821 Thanks much for the quick reply! Great, I have ordered that spring along with a new belt directly from Central Michigan Sewing Supply. @@graymaquilter9641 you are so right it is very different. My machine was owned by a lady and then put in storage in 1961 and sat there and I bought it at auction. In her machine desk she had some receipts dated 1961. So I believe its from the 1950s.

Dionne, thanks for video ! I just picked up a White badged clone in beautiful shape. Have a couple questions I hope you can help me with. I saw another video on threading a clone and they said after threading check spring to go back under round bar (thats above tensioner) before going up to take-up lever. Are they wrong with this instruction ? Also my machine is missing needle clamp. My machine has a wire thread guide screwed to needle bar above where the needle clamp will go. Where do I find a quality and correct needle clamp ? My machine also missing bobbin case, where do I find a quality new or an original era bobbin case ? I assume all class 15 clones and a Singer 15-91 use a similar or exact bobbin case ? Thanks so much !! Bryan

I would guess that is a thread that has been caught underneath. I am assuming you just got this machine that you speak of. Does it look like this machine? With the thread tension on the face plate? If so that is a Singer 15 clone and you should be able to find directions on how to thread the bobbin, then to install it in the bobbin case. But first you need to locate the source of that thread, if there is thread caught underneath it will not sew correctly. These machines need to be cleaned of all lint and spare threads. Then oiled with sewing machine oil. You can locate the manual for a Singer 15 at this link for free, print it out, and read it from front to back. If you still have issues let me know. Copy into your browser: ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/manuals/ha-1-ib-wgh-instruction-manual.pdf

Thank you for subscribing, I have been very ill lately and am unable to make any new videos at this time, so I am going to try to help you the best way I know how. Firstly I need to know the model of the machine. There are older machines from Singer and various other companies that had shuttle bobbins which are very different. They are model 27 and 28's by Singer. Also the White machines that were the first real rotary's bobbin looks different too. If your machine has the tension on the faceplate that is only the 15's, if it is on the front or top of the machine then it could be different. I am writing you two responses, let me know if it isn't a model 15 like the machine that is on this video. Perhaps I can find you other resources.

What is the button for that you can press on top of the machine to the left?
@dionnepray9821
@dionnepray9821 9 ай бұрын
If you're speaking of that button that is up on top of the presser foot bar that is the presser foot tension. So if it's completely depressed then it has the most pounds of pressure on the fabric. If you let it release you can push it down to different levels of pressure. I hope that makes sense. And conversely if you want to free motion your sewing you can drop the feed dogs and loosen the pressure and then you can guide the fabric anywhere without the feed dogs interrupting it at all.❤

Please help. I have a Singer 27 treadle. It was beautiful until I took it in for cleaning, now I can't get the top tension to work. I replaced the tension spring, which the repairman didn't and now the thread can hardly be pulled thru the discs. The only way I can use it us to wedge a piece if paper towel between the discs but there is no way to adjust the tension. Of course, when I press the lever the thread moves freely. I have the nut out to the very edge if the post and there is still too much tension on the thread. I tried the replacement discs but still the same thing happens. Can you suggest anything? I took a perfectly good machine and turned it into something unusable. I have posted a video and pictures in a Facebook group for singer machines but still nothing helps. Thanks.

Hello I got your message and it's actually a pretty easy fix. What you need to do is watch a video on how to assemble the thread tension assembly. Let me find one of the videos and you watch it it may be missing some parts like a Spring. And the parts are pretty easy to come by. I actually take one apart on a Singer 27, so watch my video I take it apart and then I put it back together and talk about thread tension that should help you out. Good luck kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2qcko1seqx-ZrM

@@dionnepray9821 yes I've watched this several times. I can take it apart and put it back together ok but the top tension thread is just a straight line, unless I use something to create a little gap between the discs while sewing. Without that gap the thread is extremely hard to pull between the discs and the front nut is almost off of the center post.
@dionnepray9821
@dionnepray9821 4 жыл бұрын
@@dwh751 When you put it back together are you sure that you've got the tension disks together right? They should be facing each other with the right sides together so that there is Ease in threading it between the 2 disks . The tension is always on unless you depress the thumb plate. Yes it will be hard to.pull the yhread without pressing the thumb plate. Do no put anything between the plates and try to stitch. It is probably fine. Screw the tension nut like I have set mine to start. See how the stitches are. When you thread it you musr press on that thumb plate to get it completely threaded

@@dwh751 did you buy the right size tension spring? If it is too long then it will be applying too much tension to the disks. Try putting the original back on. Why did you change it?

@@dionnepray9821 the original take up spring was broken when I got the machine. The only part I replaced was that spring, I'm still using the original Best ice spring, but and discs. I bought a kit that had all new items I just mentioned and I did try them. It's always the same, top tension thread is just too hard to pull between the discs, it's like the beehive spring is suddenly way way too strong.

Hi Mia, kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3XVoIN3p6p7f7M I happen to have a whole face plate with the tension assembly and a perfect check spring. It must be a clone as there is no Simanco stamped on the inside. These are all interchangeable as it is a clone for the Singer 15 sewing machine. I can post a video of it if you would like and I would sell it to you for 30.00 plus priority small box shipping of 15.00. It is the fancy plate with flowers on it. I have pictures, but I don't have a way to attach here, I will do a short video on it, and so look for my video. As far as back stitch it must have the feed dogs frozen pushing the fabric only one way, So you need to oil and use a hair dryer to un-stick the feed dogs, or else you can use WD40 first all along the bottom underneath to free it up, then wipe it down well and oil well to get rid of the WD40. The only thing that makes it go backwards are the feed dogs. Hope this helps!

My machine keeps unthreading when I sew...do you know why it does this?
@dionnepray9821
@dionnepray9821 3 жыл бұрын
I would 1st ask does the fabric move forward? Your machine starts to sew and within several stitches the thread breaks? Or on 1st stitch it comes unthreaded? If the latter then your tension must have way too much upper tension. So when the thread moves it is stuck in the tension assembly and not flowing. I guess that you need to loosen upper tension in a big way. Start there...
