My reaction to ads is either one of two things: I either don't notice the ad or (if it is too annoying) I will just pull the ripcord and leave the whole site. I happily pay to have an ad free experience on sites I use every day (YT/Spotify), but if I'm browsing Twitch and I am faced with 6 30-second ads back to back before I can even watch a second of the streamers content, I will literally just close the website and go watch YT or something. Not worth my time.

As a former Twitch enthusiast, it's the only reason I purchased Twitch Turbo: I essentially Lived on the site so having ads gone was mandatory. And it sucks too because some channels had ads disabled Only If I subbed to them so it kinda left me getting gifted subs rather than supporting them myself.

I think KZbin should allow creators to insert their own sponsored ads without them having to be baked into the video. This would allow sponsored videos to be skipped for premium users and allow creators to have relevant channel sponsors (so you're not watching an old video about a giveaway that happened 5 years ago).

@@Random_dud31 presumably KZbin would still run their own pre-roll or mid roll ads that have the 45/55 cut or they would take a cut of the sponsored ad segments. Essentially this would give premium users the opportunity to skip a video sponsor and allow creators to replace a sponsor in a single video with a channel sponsor that way that way the sponsor spots are more relevant.

The main difference is that all those competing services were all doing well and had users actually liked them. Fb/meta had an uphill climb to grab marketshare. Early internet ads were also terrible. They would take up 10-25% of the entire page. And on a 28k or 56k modem, loading a ad that covers that much of your screen just dumps your entire experience. Then the ads with pop ups got rediculous - like 4-5 pop ups, each with music. Early ads were spam. Google really evolved that space to where they work and its more of a cooperative relationship. I used netscape back in the day and 15%+ of your brower was permenent rotating ads, it was obnoxious.

As some others have pointed out, the Palm Pre is the first smartphone with wireless charging as a possibility. I have this issue with Threats in the perspective of an artist. If you’re part of the artist community, you will know that the algorithm is just straight out crap where it pushes only reels, even a single image reel, more than their posts themselves, and that the posts have a really hard time reaching your own audience, where sometimes it will be less than 10% of your followers that even see it, much less interact with it, which is natural. Plus, the feed isn’t natural, it’s based on this algorithm, and you can’t change that like in Twitter. Also the censorship in Instagram was much worse than in Twitter and KZbin, and that’s already a low standard. It was such a great platform before the zucchini bought it and it has just gotten worse and worse since 2020. Let’s say Threats is great right now. Who says it won’t just turn into Instagram 2.0?!

Thanks to Andrew for bringing this point to light, but just some specifics (L x W measurements in mm): 131.5 x 64.2 - iPhone 13 mini 146.5 x 68.1 - ZenFone 9 & 10 146.7 x 71.5 - iPhone 14 But now the interesting part… the ZenFone is thicker than iPhone, so its total volume is actually 10.97-14.63% (for the zf9-zf10) BIGGER than the iPhone 14 (not a mini). Even the iPhone 14 Pro is a significantly smaller phone than either ZenFone by volume. I find it funny how everyone cared so much about privacy, but as soon as they had to give it up to hate on what was popular to hate on (Twitter), they just sold their privacy back to Meta without hesitation. Really goes to show that most of what everyone does on social media is nothing more than trying to do what's popular rather than to actually do what's right.

Just because something is widely hated, doesn’t mean it’s suddenly hated because it’s hated. Elon’s mishandling of Twitter quickly grew into a staggeringly long list. From his public harassment of his own employees to his sharing of flagrantly transphobic and homophobic content - it’s become clear to anyone paying attention that Twitter is a wildly toxic place. Thread’s popularity is a testament to just how shitty of a person Elon is. He managed to outshit Zuckerberg. That took dedication.

@@gfyGoogle I can see that, honestly! I have seen the complaints about Twitter. Although, I just do find it weird that suddenly privacy doesn't matter anymore just to "stick it" to one guy. Basically, sacrificing a human right and enslaving your data to Meta which has been the exact opposite of what people have wanted in the past few years. I just don't see how undoing all that work to get people away from Meta can be helpful overall regardless of the reason. It's like it was all meant for show and not actually because anyone cared about privacy, and the big, objectively evil, corporation that is Meta is now winning again. However, thank you for explaining that point! Although I don't really understand fully to agree, I do appreciate it as it helps me understand why some are leaving Twitter and it makes a little more sense that I didn't see before. :D

Mastodon actually has a really good uptime, something like 99% and something like 5 million users, growing daily. I don't use it because I've never been interested in Twitter. But, Meta Instagram Threads EMBRACING the ActivityPub protocol is a big deal. ActivityPub is the Protocol that all the Reddit competitors ALSO use, and is the platform of the entire Fediverse. So, Meta is attacking not just Twitter, but also Reddit AND the open source community via "Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish" (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguish), a way that big corporations loss-lead and destroy up and coming, good faith, developing threats, often in the open source community. So even for cutthroat, extremely aggressive, destructive, unethical business moves, Threads is a huge one. By utilizing the ActivityPub protocol, technically, Threads users will be able to see and post and comment on ALL of the thousands of different fediverse platforms (how all of the fediverse was designed to work). But, a ton of fediverse places don't want huge corporations moving in and fucking it all up and are actively preemptively blocking connection to threads. The Fediverse doesn't even want Meta in their platform and their protocol that THEY MADE to be SPECIFICALLY away from corporate owned, for-profit companies. I'm all for Meta going after Twitter, I think it's a great idea. I just don't want them EEEing a really good thing as a side effect. And before anybody naively says, "Why are you judging it before you've even tried it or given them a chance?", let me just point out that, they're literally attacking Twitter in the same move - why would I trust them not to do THE SAME THING THEY'RE DOING *RIGHT NOW* to a smaller, healthier, newer, open source platform? These companies do it ALLL the time. Read that Wikipedia article. It's just what they do. "They aren’t some new, bright-eyed group with no track record. They’re a borderline Machiavellian megacorporation with a long and continuing history of extremely hostile actions." - infosec.pub/post/400702

The smallest Android "flagship" phone is the S23 (I say it that way because the S23 is not the flagship in Samsung's range, but it has great specs anyway, if not the storage and RAM vs. the Zenfone). I happen to prefer the UI approach of Asus and the and battery life of the Zenfone, so went for the 10, otherwise not much in it. The camera experience overall would be better on the S23 due to various reasons, but in some shots I prefer the Zenfone's results. Nothing beats Pixel (in Android), for my eyes though.
