Those skeletons? You can still process them. Build the conveyor so low to the ground that you can slide things onto it, then use an object to push the skeleton onto the conveyor. Miniguns happen to be able to push anything, so drop the minigun, then hold it and wave it around to push the skeleton. Yes, miniguns push anything that can move, even cars. You can walk around Jamaica Plain pushing the cars to within your workshop boundaries for loads of steel.

The recycler is useful when you have a lot of supply lines. Supply lines will share base components throughout your settlements but NOT junk items. The recycler quickly breaks stuff down and you just have to connect it to a conveyor workshop storage. Just makes it so you can ensure all your settlements have access to all your resources.

It may take some time but it is doable. Also there are some types of ammo that are very expensive and the Ammunition plant dose make getting them a bit easier. The .50 cal, Electromagnet Cartridge are a couple that can be costly and I have found personally that the Ammo plant helps with the cost of them.

There needs to be a manufacturing quest line added. Perhaps tie it into the Corvega Assembly Plant quest and make the factory components really expensive to build so it isn't so trivial, or even limited to a new workshop space just outside the assembly plant. Then manufacturing would feel like a true accomplishment and take time to achieve.

Off the top of my head, Atom Cats Garage I think, and also at that place with the huge Mr. Gutsy statue (forget what it's called), there's a gym there as well... and there's several others, but yeah, there is actually a lot of lead in the game.

I have to disagree with you on the explosive mill, being less useful than doing it manually. While I agree with you that Workshop Extended added quite a few things that SHOULD HAVE BEEN in part of Contraptions DLC. Even a pure vanilla play through with the more limited manufacturing options of just Contraptions honestly does grant the player something they never had before... true multitasking! Yes it could be easier to make explosives at the chemistry station because one has access to all the workshop inventories liked by provisioners, but can you make these explosives at the chemisrty station while simultaneously constructing a building on the other side of the settlement? No of course not. However with a little bit of for thought and preparations, you can make several dozen baseball grenades, fragmentation mines, etc... while getting something(s) else accomplished and hopefully having more fun than staring at the the Chem crafting screen. :p That in my opinion is the real functionality that was added by manufacturing in Contraptions, while mods like Kensington's make a good thing SO much better.

to build off of this idea, you can also reliably gather more armor bits if you want to have uniformed troopers. Maybe this isn't the case for everyone, but I always had the issue of ending up with 50 left leg pieces and 5 of everything else when I had to rely on stores.

IIRC, the explosives mill also allows you to produce missiles and mini-nukes. And it can pull from the shared workshop storage, you just need to use a terminal to enable the feature on the "hopper" I don't use the explosives mill much (don't use explosives at all, really) but I find the ammo mill to be quite useful. Most of the ballistic rounds use 1 lead and 1 fertilizer to make 10 or 20 bullets (have not checked the gain in a while) and keep producing even when you're quite a distance away, so I can keep producing bullets for my rifle while I'm off harvesting carrots and razorgrain for my butcher mill/fertilizer farm or scrapping weapons and armor from my raider/gunner slaughterdome. Then I can collect my bullets and start the cycle again. If you set up a settlement correctly, you can even keep the factory running when you're on the other side of the Commonwealth (or off in DLC land) and then you can use an OBJECT extractor to pull the bullets from the shared workshop inventory, into the local workshop.

Another use for the factories stuff is set up a load of gunner cages that open into am enclosed space with a conveyer that pulls them towards a hopper. Kill them off, hopper harvests them and spits out the loot and stuff, then you can sort and process everything. I done it on a huge scale with about 30 cages per conveyer with 10 conveyers. Great fun to watch it just doing it's thing with hundred of items flowing along conveyer belts to be processed

There are a bunch of items you can build which are actually pretty rare to find in stashes and containers ro in trader inventories. Like Vault-tec lunchboxes that you need for bottlecap-mines. You can make these in your factory, even getting the surprise bonus object that comes out when you open them. I should say that alone makes it usefull.

Liked the video, was disappointed with contraptions dlc because of the lack of functionality. If someone made a recycle contraption that would breakdown ammo or explosives I could see that being very useful. As far as ideas on how to use the ones that you highlighted, you could build a series of cages to capture critters free them into a enclosure with a conveyor access so that when you kill the captured critters you can just toss them onto the conveyor to a butcher contraption. I think that you would have to capture dogs since molerats can dig out of the enclosure and the other critters are to big to pick up I think. Thus is born the dog processing plant. Look forward to more in the future.

If you want useful, contraptions doesn't offer much. Armor and weapons are mundane (and noone uses mundane gear rather than legendary). Sure, if you wanted to make your settler identically geared, but even then, you could just do that with looted armor since the rarer heavy armors are vastly too expensive (ballistic fiber requirements through the roof so your dream of all your settlers being Polymer Heavy Combat Armor with Synth Field Helmet Storm Troopers with Laser Rifles is going to cost you a ton in caps and is faster farming from loot). Ammo is normally cheaper to buy unless you have low Charisma and are just using looted, rather then purchased, junk. If you have good Charisma you are better off using the fertilizer to make Jet (getting the XP) and selling the Jet for ammo. The lunchbox thing is fine, but even then you have to consider the losses at buying and selling. Sure, 3 steel is worth 3 caps but can you BUY 3 steel for 3 caps? With average Charisma that 3 steel would cost you 6 and that 10 cap lunchbox would sell for 5 - meaning you are not making money, you are just maximizing the amount of caps you derive from selling your steel stockpiles. The reason to craft lunchboxes is if you use the bottlecap mines regularly. Also, if you want to manufacture efficiently, your setup is Factory + Storage and nothing else (other than power and terminal, of course). You just load the components yourself into the factory (and it will break down junk and leave the remaining components without loss). Some of the food stuffs is worth while - the meat ones are not clean, but identical to the vanilla game, but the Clean Instamash and Clean Blamco (they don't get different names, but they are rad free and have higher health regen) can be very worth it (especially with the mag that increases health from packaged food). One also only weighs 0.1 lbs making it a good choice (especially for survival or hot key healing in battle without the stimpack animation). Not game changing (since they take a purified water to make), but you can farm water and the food components easily and the cloth/plastic requirements are super, super cheap (you likely have tons sitting in your work bench, especially if your Charisma is too low to make selling pre-war money worthwhile).

@oaksparoakspar31448 жыл бұрын
Fertilizer is used in all (presumably as the powder/primer). Some use lead and some use steel for the bullet. A few use copper (jackets). Shotgun rounds use plastic (shell). The Gauss rounds use oil as well (likely as a rail lubricant). So, fertilizer, lead, steal, copper, plastic, and oil to make any type of ammo.

I thought that automatic pipe pistol you use was a .38. You could also produce the ammo for sale as the cost of the ammo exceeds the value of the components and you may find or buy a weapon that uses one of the easily produced ammo types.

I spent about two hours tinkering with Contraptions on my Playstation...sigh...and without mods, it's effectively useless. The material costs make it pointless to manufacture this generic stuff. The fact that it doesn't connect to your workshop supply means you have to constantly babysit the thing, and in the end the conveyor belts have far too little variety for the sorts of things I'd like to do with them. Aesthetically, it's amazing. Functionally, it's worse than arenas.

The only one that kind of makes sense is the autoloom, if you have the crops to make vegtable starch.

The Workshop DLC is pure Todd Howard. All programming, no actual understanding of gameplay. I really wish he would step aside and just be the project lead instead of pretending he is a game designer.

I find my ammo factory very useful. I was always,running out of ammo (.38) and having to finish quests with shitty guns or guns that I have like 20 rounds for. So I got the contraptions DLC, made an ammo factory, and only use it for 38 rounds because all it requires is steel and fertilizer. I always get my fertilizer from the same place (that hut with the planters, carrots, and other vegetables). And for some reason you can take every single thing in the hut but you have to steal the fertilizer... But there's nobody around, my companion is cait so every time I pick the lock to the door and steal fertilizer, cait likes me more and more. And there's definitely no shortage of steel in the game. So just go to that hut, steal the fertilizer, fast travel and "wait" for it to respawn, go back, get more, get the fertilizer from greentop nursery if you haven't already. And just keep stacking up on fertilizer regularly. Loot as much ammo as you can find (38 ammo is really really common). So by manufacturing ammo, and looting, I don't find myself running out of ammo as often. Sometimes I do, but by the time i do I have enough fertilizer to make another 200 rounds or so

If you have Brahmin in your settlement they will produce fertiliser daily which automatically gets deposited into your workshop.

I wish that you could like make weapons, create a caravan of some type and go down to Diamond City with your Brahmin or whatever and then sell your product and then come back.

don't u get xp. from making it manually, but not at all from the contraptions dlc
@DngnRdr5 ай бұрын
I wish that the component extractor pulled components from the workshop AND other workshops connected by trade routes so you don't have to move it manually back to that workshop.

I work a factory at the mechanist lair. I have a vacuum hopper at the workshop. Off of that a recycler and a long belt. At the belt there is a hopper grabbing componants for an automatic combat rifle and a machine making those. Next to that is another extractor and machine making the 5.56 rounds. Now I just need to find a system that will grab just a certain number of this and a certain number of that to make just a certain number of things.

@CheriseBridge8 жыл бұрын
Usefulness, or lack thereof is one of the main reasons I've not done anything with the workshops yet. Also, my current playthrough is a roamer, no settlement, no workshop. :) But this does give some info and ideas for my next settlements. :) Thanks for the info on the mod, Kentington puts out some good stuff. Is the cannibal your next RP? I'm so excited! That will be fun. :)

I can't get my vacuum thing to pull only certain items out of the workshop. I put some copper straight into it to test, but once I turn it on it just continues to pull random stuff out, first silver then gourds. Any idea why?
@GetUpTheMountains7 жыл бұрын
The vacuums always pull everything out. What you need to do is have a line of component sorters with the component you want stashed inside it. This is how you tell it to sort. I have a whole line, with individual sorters containing one component each. They spit their results into hoppers. This results in hoppers full of items containing lead, one of steel, copper, fertilizer etc. A less robust system might have a vacuum line leading to one component sorter with several component types in it, spitting all relevant items into one hopper.

Kind of a dumb question. What outfit/armor is he wearing? Is it in game or a mod?
@zelouskight243 жыл бұрын
I think contraptions would have been more useful if weapons and armor broke overtime. Like in the previous games. That way if you needed more gear you could scrap the broken stuff and replace it.
