I started "for real" lifting a couple of years ago, and the main thing is to make sure you're doing it right. Bad form makes lifting terrible. It's like when we tell people to get a bike fit before riding, same thing for lifting. And you'd be surprised how much you need to learn to do basic lifts. Great video and message. Basics first.

I can speak from experience. I do not lift competitively or race competitively. But i do lift avidly and i do cycle avidly. Deadlifts rock. Cycling rocks. Heavy squats and heavy deadlifts have huge transfer over to cycling power. Just like anything - balance is key. Going out and hammering gears will only get you so far. The body CRAVES change to grow. Throw in a heavy lift day and see how it benefits you. It's like bolting nitrous to your race car. Sprint speed and pop on the cycle has increased immensely.

I think starting at a light weight on whatever exercise is the key to not getting hurt with instruction.
@roadcyclingacademy2 жыл бұрын
That is correct! Starting light and working the motion and technique before progressing to heavier weights is key as this will limit the chances of injury while also using the muscles fro maximum gains! -RCA Team

Sometimes you need to have a bit of weight on it to really get the movement down, light doesn’t always get you doing it right.

Really interesting. Started gym work this year for the first time after a knee injury (not cycling related) and kept at it, to my surprise I've genuinely started to enjoy it as part of my training now, as Aaron says that makes a big difference to being consistent!

Some helpful tips here, I’m about to start introducing some weight training into my routine. I’m planning on starting it with my physio so they can see my movement and work on getting the technique right. Not planning on clean and jerk straight away 😂

Hey mate thanks fro your comment, I would take another look at this video around the 10:50 mark as Aaron is explaining this there. In short: In high power sprint athletes their anaerobic systems are more susceptible to higher load than endurance based athletes therefor need longer to recover from this. We have also linked the study in the bio so feel free to check that out. -RCA Team
