Three Castles 50km Ultramarathon 2024 (Rochester To Tonbridge)

Three Castles 50km is a brand new ultramarathon for 2024 by Embrace Ultra. Starting at Rochester Castle in Medway, the route takes runners alongside sections of the river Medway including through villages, well maintained trails, and along towpaths. Along the way, runners can see Allington Castle in Maidstone and Tonbridge Castle in Tonbridge, before completing an epic loop of the Tonbridge athletics club track where the race finishes. Being slightly over 50km, at 52km, this was a very fun race and one which I can see being very popular for years to come if the organisers keep it going. Thanks for watching.

Well done Craig, great video. I was some way behind you 131/164 must admit that I was forever looking down at the timing chip especially through the long grass sections. It was my first Ultra and not to be my last.

Well done mate, it was a really fun day and the weather was great. The long grassy section has got to be one of the dodgiest parts of an ultra I've done before. No idea if I was going to slip to the left or right at a moments notice, and I actually tripped over in a hole at one point and face planted. All part of the fun. Good luck for your future ultras.

Hi Craig I found I believe your chip well before the first aid station ,around just past the Medway bridge section? I forgot to hand it in at the first aid station but handed it into the 2nd one I believe and if it was yours then glad it got to you but if not I hope that person got it 👌 well done on your run and video 🤓👍

That was a good run eh. That last 5k or so that loops around Tonbridge went on forever. I had a good run and came in 16th in around 5h14m.

@@runningcafe1 I did! London to Brighton 100k last Saturday. Ended up going 105k. Was MILES harder than I expected and took me 16h40 but I did it and was super proud of myself. It was such a long way tho!

For such mixed terrain what sort of shoes did you wear for that? Enjoy your videos BTW!

Thanks! I just used my Hoka Speedgoat 5s which are my general trail all rounder. They were fine for the race but the muddy section would be a problem for any shoes, unless you wore some with aggressive tread/lugs but I don't think that would have been sensible given the mainly dry conditions.
