To me, the new 4k restoration was too yellow, I wonder what was the original color tint of this film🤔.

This is what came closest to the film's original color tint actually. The cameraman was a big part of this restoration. They developed special filters to create these distorted colours, the cameraman of Blue used similar filters in "A short film about death". This look was washed out in the previous home video releases, where the publishers went for a more conventional, more standard look which seems a bit grey in comparison. This is how most people remember these movies and this is why this restoration is received with so much controversy, although it is actually the first home video release which features the look of the original visual concept. I had the great privilege to see "Red" on a 35mm film print two years ago in Vienna. This was an original film reel, before they did the 4K mastering. At first I was pretty distracted by how "piss"-yellow the movie looked, because I had seen it several times before on Blu-Ray. But once I accepted it, the film looked more beautiful to me than ever before. Now, where I am used to the original look of these movies, it's hard for me to appreciate the previous Blu-Ray releases. The power of these images is just so much less intense.
