From Wikipedia vocalist Adam Gontier said "The song is pretty blunt you know? It's to the point. It's about realizing there's something in your life you're wasting time on. I think everybody, even in this band and a lot of other people have felt that way before at one point or another in their life. Whether it's a person, a relationship whatever it is, you're just wasting time on it. The song is a realization of that"

I think you are so spot on with the observation about addition. This was the "clean" version, where references to drug use were blanked out.

I remember hearing this song on the radio daily. I always liked it, but it was never a favorite. I definitely preferred their following singles, Animal I have Become, and Break, a lot more. I LOVE Break, such a great song. A band I would love you to listen to that I feel has a somewhat similar style, but in my opinion is far more interesting musically, is Breaking Benjamin. Diary of Jane is probably their best known and a good place to start, but they have tons of great music.

With rock and metal music especially, I feel there's songs you're meant to listen along to and then songs you're meant to feel along to. It's like, the emotion conveyed through the lyrics is more important than the actual lyrics for certain bands, from a songwriting standpoint. It wants to convey that feeling even if there's not a greater idea beyond or attached to that feeling, and every instrument does the creative thing to carry that emotion, and it all gets wrapped up in the angsty and fearful tone of the singer's delivery. The entire album is like this, by the way. This is a really basic song from a composition standpoint, but the performance - the agression coming off every time you hear the word hate just amplifies the emotional response for the listener. It's hard not to get some energy going, to move around or (hopefully) bang your head. Not saying that makes the song better or worse, just that it demonstrates different priorities in the creative process. Which is fine, that's how we get so many different sounds. Not gonna comment without throwing a recommendation into the pile. Dream Theater is on the opposite end of the songwriting spectrum, everything is meticulously organized as the composition goes, and they layer complexity onto complexity until they've got a tapestry of sound to unravel. The Glass Prison would be a great song to start with. It's the first of what fans call the 12-Step Suite - a series of 5 songs written by their drummer about his journey recovering from alcoholism.

Hello, I recommend you listen to Muse - Exogenesis Symphony Full Muse are one of the most innovative bands of the past 25 years, incorporating classical, progressive, alternative, and other subgenres in their music. In this case Exogenesis Symphony is comprised of 3 parts, and as the name suggests, it is classical/operatic sounding. Each part is unique but at the same time add up to tell a full story, one I think you might really enjoy.

The weird acoustic guitar is so ... weird. The notes, the technique; everything is so strange. I always loved it. If you want some more Canadians, I recommend Matt Good. He has standard rock songs and epic experimental rock songs and all of them don't suck. For column A, maybe try Indestructible, and column B - ... 🤔 While We Were Hunting Rabbits should do. My current earworm is The Future is X Rated. Enjoy.

This song is the musical equivalent of chicken soup for me. Familiar, comforting, nothing fancy. Which might sound strange to someone with today’s ears since it is quite aggressive, but it is very representative of what was happening on rock radio at the time it was released.

Think about it a little. How would youtube or her be able to censor the word, but keep the instrumentals in the mix? I know your neurons can eventually make the connection, c'mon! It's just the "clean" version of the record company. It's been a thing for as long as I'm alive.
@Zundfolge
@Zundfolge 2 ай бұрын
@@luizarthurbrito There was one point where she was quoting the lyrics and it sounded like they censored the word out then as well, so that's why I assumed it was KZbin. Additionally, you can strip lyrics out of songs while keeping the instruments easily, there's a dozen programs you can use to do it (there are entire YT channels devoted to posting music with out the vocals). Regardless of whether it was the record company or KZbin that censored it, censoring the word "hit" is silly. We live in the dumbest time-line.

@@luizarthurbritoinstead of being offensive yourself, it might click to you that no one said “KZbin” is canceling anything. “We” - as a culture, society presenting ourselves on KZbin go into preemptive obedience and censor ourselves for a word as descriptive as “hit”.

I don't know what happened to The Beatles series, and am sad it's gone. Inasmuch as it is, there is a channel, Fathom, done by a young woman whose musical intelligence is astounding, and most of her stuff is Beatles. Inasmuch as The Beatles are gone, I cannot imagine why you are not doing programs about the great Anerican songwriters of The Golden Age, approximately 1910 - 1965. After The Beatles, everything in music was a letdown. Before The Beatles, however, there was a spectacular storehouse of the greatest popular songs in world history: the Gershwins, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hart, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Hoagy Carmichael, Harold Arlen, Lerner and Loewe, Frank Loesser, Johnny Mercer, Matt Dennis, Jule Stein, James van Heusen, Vincent Youmans ( maybe the greatest of lost American talents ), and many more. They wrote the great Broadway musicals and The Great American Songbook. Why are you wasting your time on junk when there is a treasure trove of marvelous songs waiting there for your discovery?
@zzzaphod8507
@zzzaphod8507 2 ай бұрын
Yes, if the Beatles series isn't coming back to KZbin, and the others of interest (Queen, for example) have also been winding down, not sure it's worth spending as much time watching videos on this channel. I wouldn't go as far to say that *everything* after the Beatles was a letdown but I do agree that the selection of bands here has been suboptimal lately.
@bobtaylor170
@bobtaylor170 2 ай бұрын
@zzzaphod8507 apparently, her husband is responsible for that. There were some remarkable people other than The Beatles, specifically, The Kinks and to a lesser degree, The Stones, then in the late 1960s - early 1970s, there was The Band. Throughout the 1970s there was one remarkable writer/performer, Stevie Wonder, and there was the ever interesting Steely Dan. But inasmuch as she has had this weird, hermetic musical background with apparently no or almost no exposure to non classical music, I suppose she's dependent for things to analyze on her husband, whose knowledge appears to be impoverished.
