Thank you Nancy. I recognised so much of what you mentioned but I didn’t have the chronological perspective. It helps me to understand where an organisation is at when their current state of KM.

Lotus Notes came out in 1990 and was a true knowledge management tool. By 1995 there were hundreds of thousands of users. VAX Notes preceded that by about five years and could be considered a KM solution.

Bob I agree but in the mid 90’s when I was using Lotus Notes on a large ERP implementation we didn’t view it as such. We saw it through a very tactical lens, as a means for enabling sharing and as a repository tool...we hadn’t matured enough to allow ourselves to see the strategic advantage for the wider organisation - that did come later though.
