This is a great way to build note pages. I have resorted to buying clairfontaine A4 paper printing 5mm dot grid on both sides then folding it as you have taught us. It makes great general note papers for my 13mm wallet binder I built for capturing all things daily. Appreciate the inspiration and information shared on your channel. Another way to fold would be to use the pocket mod fold.

It must be frustrating if you cannot get hold of this paper in your locality. I find that the price of the A4 Rhodia grid pads varies wildly, so I stock up when the price is right. I think 13mm is the sweet spot foe an EDC binder, which, given that all mine are 11mm, is why I find that Clarefontaine 50GSM paper is such a good choice for me. I'm really starting to like this new, extended diary arrangement, so thank you for your feedback. I have yet to try the "pocket mod", primarily because I like loose sheets, but I do currently carry a couple of sheets of folded A4, in the back pocket of my mini executive, which I use from time to time. I might make a video about the pocket mod, so thanks for the heads-up.

This idea is genius , Each extension space will be useful for dedicating to different activities or projects as well as providing extra space for continuous daily note taking . Thanks for the hack .

I just say that people that tell You "get to the point" don't understand that often the journey is the goal, not the arrival point in itself. And, - AND - we all love British people for their calm approach to life (You know, the world stops at five o'clock for tea, and all that stuff), don't make them hurry. Greetings from Italy.

I appreciate your kind words very much. I like the way you have described the advantages of. slow approach.

The "diary extension" is very useful. I used to do something similar when I used a pre-printed diary years ago (first a self made one week on a page on personal size and later on mini size), but, instead of making sections for every day of the week, I used the whole inserted page as a one day on a page diary for that particular busy day. I often used the same technique to insert some other stuff, like some todo lists by @contexts, @agendas, etc. (ala GTD), or just a page or two for notes for a meeting, etc.

I like your idea. I am using Rhodia A7 notepad paper (specifically the Rhodia No. 11 notepad) in graph paper in my Mini Goldpfeil binder. At $3.50 for 80 sheets it's not outrageously expensive but I know I could do better. If I fold a letter-size sheet the same way you are, I think I could get a similar result. I am going to have to try it when I get home. I have not fully committed to leaving behind my Field Notes 1-week to a page notebook since I still have a few of them but purely as an inbox. Having paper-source options for my mini binder is good. Thank you.

Thanks for your feedback on this topic. As you know, I like to experiment with many paper based systems, but I think I may be onto a winner here. It certainly seems to be working well.

The diary extension is ingenious. For the first time this layout makes sense to me. I currently won't use it as I prefer the 1 week on two pages with day columns like a school week timetable. But if I wrote more day entries and diary notes, your design would make perfect sense! I also cut the inner page after hole punching. I use a corner clipper and a cutting board. I am a faile OCD perfectionist regarding my page setup whereas your pragmatic approach is far more practical.

I'm constantly trying different ideas. I do not think there is any perfect one, but it is go that we all try different methods. Thanks for your feedback.

Yep you’re the Filofax/notetaking lab rabbit (do you use that phrase). And that’s why you have such great solutions for problems I didn’t realise. You try to make things better and that’s very well appreciated!! Btw I’m m impressed by the way you can write small with a relatively wide ball point as the Bic mini is 1.0 mm. I tend to clutter my words in an endless row of mmm’s. Still something I have to learn.

Lab rabbit? I have heard that phrase, but it isn't common in the UK. Thank you for your kind words btw. If space is at a premium then I can write very small. I often use a Pilot V7, but I also use a "Tom's Studio" Mini Lumos, with a 0.1mm tip (which is incredibly small). I think that writing in capitals help to keep my small writing legible. I like to keep changing my pens throughout the day, and also keep around fifty fountain pens inked; partly because it is enjoyable and partly because I like to discover what pens and papers work well together. Thanks for your input.

I’m almost ashamed to say that I can’t write in capitals 😮😱 Only when I write extremely slow which takes away all the advantages of handwriting. And yes I can’t type fast either. So handwriting and speech to text are my ways to go.

Great idea. But adding multiple days on sheets for one day might leave you with pages that are only partially filled. I just use a full blanc page for that day/event.
@Flatability8 ай бұрын
That is very true. Indeed, I'm also experimenting with the method that you suggest. I guess it is the nature of being a channel host that I try lots of different ideas. Thanks for your input as always.

I just tried the first hack and I have the exact same hole punch as you but my paper is stuck in my hole punch. I’m using really thin paper, which paper did you use?

I like paper, but I would like to know what is the reason why You prefer it instead of a phone digital notepad. After all, like it or not, You already must have a Smartphone in Your poclet. (Hard to get by without one, only the most fortunate of us can go without one all day long) .
@Flatability8 ай бұрын
That is a very big subject! It deserves discussion in a future podcast I think, so look out for that. Personally, and specifically focussing on a phone digital notepad, I prefer using pen and paper because by the time I've accessed my notepad app, I've already written the note on paper and put it back in my pocket. There are of course the issues over battery dependancy and a reluctance to use a phone in public on mean streets, but the main preference for paper is speed. At least for me. Thank you for your input.

I think I would have to use a paper trimmer as I like everything just so. I would then punch.
@Flatability9 ай бұрын
Thank you for your input. I appreciate it.
@Ne0nLicht9 ай бұрын
I usually cut my inserts by hand instead of using a trimmer or even scisors, leaving some raft edges which I enjoy (to each their own). 🙂🙃 I later punch using the great passport size puncher from Megatimer which punches 3-4 mm holes much closer to the paper edge than other larger punchers, so that I don't need to trim the inner border of the pages for them to work on mini or pocket size binders.
