That duckbill check valve thing was driving me crazy on my 240. Accidentally pulled it out while pulling a new fuel line through. No luck getting the brass screen out and didn't want to risk a poor fit when replacing it. Drilled it out to the size of a husqvarna fuel line grommet and am gonna run it out of the top cover with an echo tank vent lol. Double as a tank drain with how little I use the saw in the desert.

I am wondering if I have a tank vent problem on my new 372 XP. Tuesday, I ran it with a new bar, so I could get an initial tune on the carb. I then put it up without refilling the gas tank, as I usually do. The next morning I tried to crank it and it would not crank. I primed it and it cranked up but would not stay running. I sat it aside until later. I did top it off with fuel before setting it aside. Later, it cranked right up and ran normally. That smells to me like tank vent. It was hot when I ran it Tuesday and when it cooled down it could have developed a vacuum in the tank and sucked the carb, dry, overnight. Last night when it had a chance to cool down I opened the cap to make sure it was still full and to release any vacuum on the tank. I did not hear any sucking sound and yesterday I ran it down to the last quarter of a tank without any problem. Personally, I thought the check valves in the carb would keep the tank from sucking it dry. It could be leaking diaphragms in the carb that caused the gas to drain back into the tank.

I'm not knocking your way but I had already ordered an OEM vent before I saw your video or I would have done it your way. I just put the comment on here to help someone in the future if they did like me and already ordered the stem valve, I'm just tickled that i got it to work, i have filled it up and run it a little and no leak yet with no silicone. Just a short piece of heat shrink did the trick
@matthewolson8875
@matthewolson8875 5 жыл бұрын
the oem stem doesn't fit, but you are saying that with a piece of heat shrink you got it to fit? cool. is the heat shrink tube gas resistant? as long as it won't degrade you've got it made :)

rikabob I'm now checking these vents first....then tearing them out and making the vent remote by drilling out the hole...adding a fuel line there and running it up into the air box to an echo style vent.

My vent was junk on my tank and I replaced it with an OEM vent, of course it didn't fit but I cut a short piece of heat shrink and put it over the vent tube and it fit perfect. Haven't tried it yet but it seemed to go together nice and tight. And my air filter was letting dust get through, so I inspected the filter and noticed it was a two piece just snaps together. So I used silicone around the joining surfaces, hopefully my saw is ready.

I have a husqvarna 394 with a tank vent leak its missing or warn out is there a black tube that is in the tank that the new vent screws into or does it thread into the orange tank or threads in the black insert. Cheers
@matthewolson8875
@matthewolson8875 4 жыл бұрын
On the 394 I think there is a black insert...just press in and out. Not threaded. There usually is a small white puck in the black tube and sometimes a larger white one on top of that assembly

Hey, so I've got a 350. Runs great for a while then it stalls. Open the fuel cap and air rushes in. Fires up and runs great for a while again. So I go to clean the vent. Pop off the two little white plugs and find that the hole down inside appears to just be a blind hole, can't blow air in and its orange down there like it was never drilled out when the saw was made. Can you confirm what its supposed to look like down the vent hole?
@johnclarke6647
@johnclarke6647 3 жыл бұрын
The small scratches in the cylinder are probably the result of the piston billeting in the cylinder and the sharp edges on the top and bottom of the piston. It is a good practice to break the edges of the top and bottom of the piston. This will stop those little cosmetic scratches. This concept is from Harv (Ironhorse).

Hi Matthew, i am working on a Husqvarna saw where the previous owner covered up the tank vent with JBweld or something. So my fix was i purchased a DuckBill Tank Vent from Stihl, i drilled a hole in the top of the tank and pushed it in... thats it... do you think this is a sufficient fix... Is the location of the vent important ? i see no reason why a DuckBill can't be used on an old Husky, Any thoughts ?

no issue, other than servicability. i've moved vents on these 372s into the carb box so I could easily get at the vent and its less likely to become gunked up :)

I too thought I'd save around $150 CND and ordered one of these Chinese tanks for my 372. My problem turned out to be the gold vent leaking from day 1 until now where it leaks so much as to render it unusable after a few months use. Back to OEM, may as well have burned the money spent on the cheap tank.
@matthewolson8875
@matthewolson8875 6 жыл бұрын
I've figured out the solution...its cheap and easy. .... I think. lol. Pull the gold vent out, with the black plastic housing. Drill out the hole in there to just smaller than the diameter of some fuel line. stick some fuel line in there with an ECHO tank vent attached. :) look up echo tank vent on ebay, .... the cheap ones work fine

@@matthewolson8875 hey if you dont mind and id really appreciate it. But why would fuel drip out the vent itself. Not necessarily around it. And do the 440xtorqs usually dump alot of oil out? Reading the manual it seems that its designed this way. But compared to my other saws that don't leave any oil while sitting. The 440 always leaves a little puddle

@@calebwillhelm2635 all of my saws puke all their oil out. Especially when the temp goes up and down a lot in my shed. Fuel can drip out a tank vent ....but it may be a good idea to replace the vent. Lesson learned is simply to drain oil and fuel after use...that way no leaks during storage
