The menacing voice of the Wolf traumatized me as a child, I'm 43 now and it still gives me the creeps.

I said the same thing. Wow same age. Good memories though. I always wondered how the person really looked

@@murph9159 His name was Jimmy MacDonald, and for a long time he was one of Disney's top sound effect designers. He was also a voice actor; in addition to creature vocal effects (his voice for the Big Bad Wolf here sounds a lot like if the Wolf he voiced in the "Peter and the Wolf" and "Lambert the Sheepish Lion" cartoons could talk), he also voiced the male mice in "Cinderella", and also voiced Mickey Mouse in a bunch of material from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Found the book at a thrift store, and it’s wonderful to let my 3 year old read along with this recording!

I once had it on a tape cassette. R.I.P., Linda Gary. I wonder who voiced the pigs or the wolf.

The wolf’s growls are nothing compared to a real one. In this book, he’s drawn like a mischievous fox, but in reality, is a killer

The lesson learned from this story is that hard work pays off, whereas laziness comes with a price. The first two pigs were slackers who refused to put forth any effort into building their houses. As a result, they chose a quick and easy way to build their houses, and these houses couldn't protect them from danger when the Big Bad Wolf showed up.

This read-along adaptation doesn't really do the classic short much justice. Worthy of note are the 1948 Little Golden Book illustrations where the Big Bad Wolf is all freaky and off-model (like a black-furred Br'er Fox or Foulfellow), Practical Pig having a high girlish voice, and of course the really menacing voice and growl the Big Bad Wolf voice has. Even as a kid I wondered why they made it so different from the actual cartoon.
