A NOTE IN A BOTTLE: I stood her up, it was Sep15,1968. Her name was Ann my name is Harvie. She lived near the boys school in Bangor. I was a sailor. We met at a dance, I remember the club as being Moloney's. We went to her place for only a few minutes. I made a date with her to meet her at the train station in Belfast the next day but my ship got underway & I was not able to meet her for our day of fun. There is no way she could have known what happened but it was impossible for me to contact her or give an explanation. So Ann, if you are still out there & if by chance you should read this, please understand it was beyond my control but you remain a very important person that I have often thought of & wondered, what might have been. I live in USA.

Many fond memories. Sailing my wee model yacht in Ward Park pond just near the Hamilton Road entrance along with many other kids - happy, innocent times. The Locarno for fish and chips, tea bread and butter with my brother & grandparents and before the Marina was built dodging the crashing waves coming over the sea wall up towards Pickie Pool in rough weather lol!

I must ask, how do you pronounce Tyrone?
@paulweir50313 жыл бұрын
@@nerdynoodles4863 Tirroan: the first syllable as in tiramisu, the second as in moan. Never Tie - roan, although this has been heard ! Berkeley is another that gets my goat, it's BARK not BERK; although the word berk, as in ' he is a right berk ' comes from the mispronunciation. Many English people use the word without knowing that it is shortened rhyming slang from Berkeley Hunt; you can work out the true meaning of berk, I'm sure.

My Great, Great Grandfather pictured here came from Bangor in 1857 with his brother and settled in Australia. His name is Robert Wilson and he married a Esther McWilliams in the First Meetinghouse presbyterian church in 1853 and they had two children born in Bangor one being my Great Grandfather William. I did contact the Local Historical Society who meet in that church but they couldn't find any Wilson's left in Bangor. Hope to get there one day.

Castle Park desecrated, it was left to the people of Bangor to enjoy not to be turned into building sites and car parks. That bloody marina which has brought in how much? So many lovely pubs, Marine, Furey's, Tavern, Davy Woodman's, Lynch's gone or changed out of recognition; no big Co-op at the foot of Main Street, Addy's and Balmer's chemists, Jubilee, Boulevard, West's, I could go on. No Laird's or Caulfield's rowing boats. No Royal hotel.
